People sometimes refer to their house as a "crib" in American slang, particularly within hip-hop and street culture, as a way to describe their home or residence. The word "crib" itself has a complex history, originally used as a slang term for a house or dwelling, particularly in thieves' slang, dating back to the 1800s. More recently, it's become a common way to describe a house, apartment, or even a place of entertainmen

In Jay's defense I've heard a lot of people, especially at work, refer to their house as "the crib"! It's definitely a ghetto type of thing!
