Brakes/Rust

So here is what I was told and my knowledge is limited so I can only believe the dealership at this time. Hopefully this place can help. I have a 16 Tacoma & 4 Runner and both of them have little rust spots all over the body, hundreds of spots on both vehicles. So Toyota has agreed to paint my wife’s 4 Runner on the tailgate but the problem will keep happening if what they gave as the reason doesn’t get replaced. From Taylor Toyota in PA, they told me that tiny specs on brake dust is kicking off the brakes and eating through the paint. Does anyone else have this issue or does any of this sounds like a crazy reason given to me. Thanks for all your help and to this site. It’s absolutely awesome and everyone on here.

That sucks. How does brake dust get on the tail gate?
 
Most of the spots are rail dust from transporting the vehicle. The dealer should have removed it on the pdi inspection. If left on the spec eats it way down through the paint and eventually get bigger. Has nothing to do with brake dust.

When the vehicles are transported by rail the train kicks up small particles on metal from the track. The metal settles on the vehicle and because the paint is still new and soft it sticks to the surface.

Good luck convincing the dealer that they didn’t do the PDI correctly haha
 
Go in and tell them it's rail dust that wasn't removed after the vehicle arrived. They are responsible and should do the repairs. Call Toyota corp if they they say no. Lawyer up of you have to because this could be very costly if not repaired properly.
