You remove the center bolt and insert the plastic piece to drain the housing then the plastic part of the housing to remove the filter element. Change those seals!

I'm curious. I don't have a Tacoma yet, but what is the advantage to using a cartridge type oil filter versus a spin on type? Seems like a bunch more trouble to change your oil and filter. There must be a reason why Toyota went to the cartridge type. Any ideas?
