Prerunners get better gas mileage?

Hey Guys,

New to the forum, hunting hardcore for a Tacoma. Can make do a with 4x2 - and prefer the 4cyl due to better gas mileage and i hear the motor is a rock.

That said i came across a decent deal on a V6 07 PreRunner. I didnt (and still dont) know much about the PreRunner but it seems like its a sportier version of your standard 4x2 6cyl... wider track, possible lift, and taller gearing. I was about to say no when i noticed it seems like these guys get better gas mileage!

If it has taller rear gears is this possible? Am i missing something?

Update (if it matters) - it is a PreRunner but looks like it might be a 4cyl instead of a 6... not that it matters to me.

It's just a Tacoma w/o 4WD. It's for that person who wants a truck but doesn't want to pay for the 4WD.

It looks like the PreRunner has some strange options compared to a standard 2WD Tacoma, including taller rear gears.

I've seen it mentioned. But in another few posts i've seen people say you get better gas mileage because you have a PreRunner... it just doesnt make sense to me.

Prerunner should get better mileage than a 4x4, but will not get mileage as good as a 5 lugger.

I've gotten 22.5 on half a dozen tanks or so of strictly highway driving. My overall gas mileage for 2 years is 19.1.
