Stock air filters

Was on TW and there was a discussion on tacoma stock air filters and the removal of the "charcoal " filter in the air box. Some say good idea; some say bad. What do you all say?

Depends is you have emissions testing where you are.
 
I removed the charcoal and dropped in the Prodry. It doesn't feel like more power, but my 5sp 2.7l doesn't get bogged down like it used to and my gas mileage went up 1-2 MPG. Not having to downshift and wind it out as frequently is great, but only time will tell if there is a down side.
