Top Engine and Fuel Injection Cleaning

I took my 2016 Tacoma in for the 30,000 mile check yesterday. In addition to the items on the Toyota 30,000 check in the maintenance manual, the dealer added a Top Engine and Fuel Injection Cleaning. It cost $240.00.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this item added to their mileage check. I am also wondering what people think about the value of a Top Engine and Fuel Injection Cleaning.

I will appreciate all of your thoughts on this.

Welcome to the forum.
Did you pay for and have that service completed or they only recommended it?

It was represented to me that this was part of the 30,000 check so I authorized it. As I was driving home, I thought something is not right about this and the amount it cost. So when I got home I looked in the maintenance manual and saw it was not on the list. So I called the dealer and they refunded the cost.

They almost got you.

Agreed man. That sounds sketchy.

Whatever you do never put seafoam in your oil if you have high mileage, only through your intake or feul tank. Seafoam will clean the hell out of your engine and your valves will never seat right. I had to have my heads/new valve seats redone after using seafoam. Lesson learned.

I've always been to scared to try this even through the throttle body.. I did run a can through the gas tank and didn't notice anything but there was never a problem to begin with..

I have always used top tier gas and whenever id thick about it run a shot of either Lucas, Amsoil, or Red line fuel treatment thru the tank. Amsoil and redline are better cleaners with some top oiling abilities and lucas is more of a top oiler with cleaning abilities. That being said ive never had any issues nor had the idea that I needed to clean my throttle body or any other cleaning.

I run good gas too but my turd gen had a long running problem with knocking, hesitation, and lugging. Installed a oil catch can in the pcv system and had a mechanic spray in the carb cleaner through that vacuum hose. Yep, whole new engine afterwards. I guess it depends on whether your particular engine has problems or not.

Mechanic said the oil coming back in thru the pcv hose causes knocking. The dual injectors won't help with that. And the pcv hose was definitely wet with oil when we removed it. Also, I think this engine is based on the lexus 3.5, which requires premium only. A lot of people complain about knocking on the turd gen so I guess it makes sense.

I noticed on my hemi that I collected a lot more in the catch can when I was running Red line than when I was running either m1 or Amsoil. It didn't use any oil on any of them, just a difference in the catch can.
Also, my taco deffinately runs better and smoother on premium 93 gas. The first tank I would assume was regular beings it was my free tank from the dealer and I was kinda concerned because it was not smooth at all and a dead spot right off idle. The first couple of tanks I put in were mid grade 89 and that really helped it, the last couple of tanks have been premium 93 and its been doing great, runs like I think it should now.

The engine is designed for premium. They just reprogrammed it a little to back off on the engine timing when knocking is detected. Doesn't always work, and produces that hated hesitation we manual drivers notice.
