TRD or just SR5???

Hi all,

I want to buy my first Tacoma. I'm looking for a 2010 double cab with the V6. I'm not a contractor who will tow a heavy trailer all the time. I want a dependable truck for getting our there, for adventure. I will tow a trailer once a while, but nothing close to 6000 lbs. Is the TRD really worth the extra cost or a SR5 will do it? I'm looking at a price difference for a 70000km of about 4-5000$.

Can someone tell me the main differences between the 2 options?

TRD: Nicer wheels, bigger tires. Bilstein suspension. Water resistant seats. Skid plates. Few other gizmos i cant remember off the top of my head.

Tow package has transmission cooler, bigger alternator, and super duty battery. You're gonna tow anything you should consider it. But you dont need to get a TRD to get it I believe.
 
Plus the Trd offload has a locker and I think the sport has a limited slip. But if you're mostly going to tow I wouldn't think you need the Trd
 
The TRD stands for "Toyota Racing Development". Not sure what the SR5 stands for... I have a 2006 4WD which has the "Toyota Racing Development" sticker on the back, but it also has the SR5 on the tailgate..... So which one do I have? Is it the TRD or SR5?

You have Trd off road or sport plus the sr5 package
 
A V6 with a tow package will be sufficient. Make sure its a factory tow package, not just an added hitch. You will get all the goodies(IE larger alternator, larger cooler etc) with the factory tow package. Most(if not all) DC are SR5. TRD is just an option package. Good luck, either way its a great truck.
 
As whipper said it is really up to you, if you think you need what the Trd off road/ sport packages have to offer then get one. If not then you could just get the tow package.
