Reached 186,000 , performed tune up to my 2013 v6 4.0. Last done at 130,000. Replaced all 6 spark plugs w/ NGK Iridium Laser plugs. Replaced all 6 original coils with NGK OEM coils. Bought all parts on Rock Auto at less than 1/2 the price at all local parts stores . 6 new ngk coils & 6 new ngk Iridium spark plugs for about $250 plus tax and shipping. She idles and accelerates more smoothly, and purrs like a kitten at idle. Very happy and saved hundreds of $$$ .

I haven't touched my gen3 since I picked it up in feb. of 2020 doing only yearly oil, and cabin filter changes. I guess it's time to replace the engines air filter at nearly 38k miles. Maybe do differential, and transfer case fluid also in the near future. Don't like to mess with too much as the truck runs like it's got a good v8.

have you ever had to replace any u-joints on that gen2?

you don't really need to change any of that gear oil ever
Not so, I've seen how differential oils look after 30k miles in my tundra...imo they should be changed. Transfer case oil, and atf could likely go a bit further when speaking with a friend thats a toyota tech.
Btw, he had some latest info on making your toyota a toyota that was interesting, saying its been mostly marketing bs. claiming their replacement parts are nowhere as good as toyotas original stuff that comes in every new vehicle of theirs. Basically toyota figures their oem replacement parts will be good for a few more years, figuring the customer will buy a new vehicle by that time, yet toyota still makes a very healthy profit selling their parts....its a win win for them.

A 1st gen claims to have never changed gearbox oil in his 96 and he has over 400k onit in 30 years
he operate a napa parts store and knows a thing or two or three bout it
