? Serp belt on gen2 4 cylinder...

this belt likely gettin a bit long in the tooth
at 115k and 14.5 yrs

gotta replace pulleys as well while ya in there
once i get it all figured out

it is complicated now that i have to ALSO remove the fan to remove the shroud for proper clearance to get at it all

the gen1 shroud is in two pieces... don't have to remove the fan to remove the shroud, unlike the gen2 4cylinder

You don't need to remove any of that unless you're clueless. Don't make a job harder than it is.
 
What are you a 5 year old? It's so simple, 20 minute job unless you need a new tensioner. If you know any other kids ask them to give you a hand.

Gotta remove belly pan to get at it underneath
Remove fan and shroud to reach in there
This is 4cylnder
Not quite roomy as the six cylinder is
 
Actually the 4 cylinder is is easier than a 6. Never had to remove a fan shroud either. Must be ones first big job. At least its a very simple one.
 
strange cold-start squeal heard yesterday that went away after a bit of warming up
cold it be this belt on its last H@@R@H...? ... hope it just the belt anyhow and not that damned ps vane pump
i am trying to figure out how to best remove it still that does not take like forever and ever lmao

Are you still dicking around with that same serpentine belt? whats wrong with you...just replace it. if the idlers are running rough replace them to. This is a simple job for any adult.
 
i got dat oil n filter change coming up in 3k miles or so
gotta remove belly pan undercover for that service
that should provide much easier access underneath the belts and tensioner since i am not removing fan and shroud unless absolutely it is necessary to do so
so i might just need to shut it down a day or however long it takes to git er done

maybe just remove the grill to reach it all a bit safer ??? especially for that pulley i cannot readily reach at it with my neck cripplin over on me
 
Well it's one thing if one has a handicap, but any halfway healthy adult should be able to change this belt without taking days to do it. I can tell you being 73 years old, and a stroke survivor, it's no longer easy for me to do jobs as quickly as I once did. I'm at the point now, other than routine maintenance I'll trust others to do the bigger stuff. It just eats me up seeing what I was able to accomplish when younger. I wasn't afraid of any job too big.
Btw, newer heard of removing the grill for a serpentine belt replacement 8, 6, or 4 cylinder.
