Oh, great Swamee. I see extreme misfortune in the future requiring many resources and deep pockets.

    Oil change

Something to consider. If your truck Owner's Manual states to use 10W30 (or whatever), you could do harm using a lighter viscosity oil like 0w8 in that engine. Engines are designed with specific clearances. These clearances are filled with an oil film which is dependent on the correct...

'97 Taco life + times, the chronicles of...

Still driving distracted..... You won't be happy until you cause a catastrophe. Please stop before you take some unsuspecting driver with you. FYI.....at 85 mph you travel 125 ft every second.

    2001 Tacoma regular cab 2.7

Just because compression is low does not necessarily mean the engine needs replacing. Your valves could be worn not seating properly. Piston rings could be broken or worn. I'd suggest deeper diagnostics before you open the wallet for an engine.

    Your Dogs

Thank you. The diagnosis absolutely crushed me. Didn't sleep at all that night. The next day was very difficult. Then the last trip to the Vet was as tough. I didn't realize what that 15 lb schnauzer meant to me. I ran a rough estimate of the number of walks we did over the 8...

    Your Dogs

Its been a week since we euthanized my miniature schnauzer. He was 8 years old and my constant companion. I miss him dearly. My house is missing a soul. He had cancer in his sinus passages. Very aggressive. It had invaded the skull, an eye, hindering breathing, frequent nose bleeds...

Bed bolts are loose again ... Gen 2

I had a rattle on my Gem2. Didn't take long to find it and fix. It was a heat shield above the CAT on the Driver's side. Mount points are completely gone. Can't complain, its been on there since 2006. The fix was to remove it. One day, I'll replace it.

Whats the price of a Gallon of Regular gas where your at?

Just filled Monday for $2.90/gal of E15 (88). First fill after long trip to central IA and back. Running I-70, I-35, I-135 speeds and snaking thru KC. The 4.0L V-6 is making 17+ mpg. I had a load in the bed.

Understand. Unfortunately, you are merging, changing lanes, the right of way belongs to the vehicle already in that lane. Sorry for the mishap.

    Recommended maintenance on 2018 Taco?

Yes. You are correct. It should be clear. Not red. I was thinking trans. My V-8 brain is only hitting on 2 maybe 3 cylinders......other things have my head in a tumble.

    Happy 4th everyone

Had 4 days from work. Thursday and Friday were good days. Many chores completed, plumbing leaks repaired, motorcycle started after 11 year sleep with heavy engine out work. Saturday and Sunday crushed me. Long story shortened. Saturday, spent 7 hours at the Emergency Vet Clinic working...

    Recommended maintenance on 2018 Taco?

Agree on all that with one exception. Change the PS fluid. It has likely turned dark maroon to black. Indicating its worn out. It should be red.

97' Tacoma needs a new engine

I wish there could be a limit as to maximum age a thread can be to prevent dredging up ancient conversations. Almost like a wife bringing up something Hubby did 10 years ago during an active discussion to "prove" her point. RIDICULUS and STUPID.

Remember, If you are merging into traffic from an on-ramp.....YOU DO NOT have right of way. Commonly, YIELD signs are on the end of every on-ramp. Damage isn't too bad.

    Fan belt change

If you are still running original belts, then I strongly urge you to replace them. Belts are not infinite lifetime parts. No rubber part is infinite life. Get a clue.

front brakes + rotors on gen2...

Then replace them now. You can replace them anytime you want. Just the minimum pad thickness is 1 mm. They can be replaced at 2., 3, 4, 5 mm.

front brakes + rotors on gen2...

The wear limit on the front disc pads is 1 mm. When the pads are 1 mm thick, then replace them. Don't go by mileage. Too many factors impact mileage on a set of disc pads. Remaining pad thickness is the guide.

oh my..... The belt will be shiny if it is glazed. The belt should NOT be shiny.

    brake drum gasket?

Let me help you. Are you loosing brake fluid? Are you loosing rear diff fluid? Any signs of oil tracking on the inboard side of the drum brake plates? Any signs of lubricant on the inside of the rear rims? If the answer to these questions is NO, then you have nothing to be concerned about.
