2011interrior lights

Forgive the dumb questions. I'll have more I'm sure. The only other cars I have to compare to are my 08 Ford Edge, and my 04 Sienna. When I open the door on my Tacoma, the interior lights don't come on.
Is this normal?

I had this happen on my 2015 and some how the switch on the overhead light got turned off. Not the reading lights but roof middle area.
