2016-2017 needle bearing still an issue???

They are replacing:

Old Bearing - 90364-35010
Manufacturer: Koyo
Length: approx. 25.8 mm overall
Number of Needles: 34
Length of Needles: approx. 19.8 mm

New TSB Bearing - 90364-35008
Manufacturer: Nachi
Length: approx. 25.8 mm overall
Number of Needles: 34
Length of Needles: approx. 18.5 mm

We will see.

My truck was dropped off at the dealer this morning. They gave me a rental to drive and good thing this time. I didn't have to sit in the lobby for 6 hrs like I did on Monday. They replaced the part with essentially the same part. They called me and said it did NOT eliminate the humming. They said they don't think the needle bearing was the problem because their "new" part should have fixed it if that's what was causing the vibrations. Now they want to keep it.
I tried to tell them days ago I would pay for the ECGS bushing if they would pay for the install but they wanted to go this route. I tried to tell them it wouldn't fix it. It would be a waist of time and money but gave them the benefit of the doubt.
I have no idea what they are going to do next. They said they where going to get ahold of toyota, I'm assuming corporate, and have someone come out to look at it. I have no idea what that means or what they are going to do. I'm sure I'll hear from them sometime tomorrow.

Got the call from my toyota service dept. they did all they could for me. They tried and can do no more. They are done with my truck for now. They called Corporate and corporate said if they do any more for me it won't be reimbursed under warranty. They replaced the needle bearing with their "fix" it did not fix it. I wonder why? it's basically the same part... why didn't it work toyota? I thought you put out the TSB-0026-15 to fix this 12 year old issue? :D

Did they put the lift on? If so you would have a legal argument that they couldn't win. They are testing hoping you will go away.

Buy the ECGS bushing and pay a shop $200 to put it in. Do it it yourself with a friend. Mine is running great so I recommend getting that bushing installed and enjoy your truck again. Good luck.

Before all this started I called the toyota service department and talked to my service adviser. I actually said if the needle bearing starts to vibrate will you fix it and he said the revtek was the one that they "could" approve and work with warranty issues on. He has since been "let go" Moral of this GET IT IN WRITING! The service adviser that I have now said sorry He told me that. but... can't do any more. They tried. They went as far as they Wanted to.
The ECGS bushing is probably the best fix. I wanted to have the issue documented with toyota so they know another 2017 has this issue.. Maybe they might do something or actually fix the problem. I'm still going to call corporate and talk to someone. 12 yrs and the same issue come on toyota you're better than that!
Thanks for following and the advice.

You mention the vibration but are you getting the humming, around 30-45 mph a rotational sound? Its usually not constant just comes and goes as the wheel turns at these speeds? I only ask because maybe your tires are out of balance a little? Its common that you will have both symptoms based on my experience and many others. I still believe the bushing is the way to go and look forward to hearing from you after you get it installed. Based on the above i agree you should have your local shop do it and forget the dealership its a waste of time and they will only stall and ignore you til the end.

I only have the rotational hum and it starts around 30mph and goes aways around 45mph. It does an intermittent hum...hum... hum... a few seconds between each hum or "vibrational feeling", didn't mean to confuse anyone with my verbiage. No shaking of the wheel or vibrations from wheels or tires the truck runs amazingly smooth and I love it. Just want the hum... hum... hum while I'm driving to work at 35-40mph for 6 miles to be gone. I've just been turning my radio up loader then I normally would

Yes the truck in 4wd has no hum. I'll be getting the bushing installed next week. Thanks.

I had that noise on my '14 after the 2" lift, did the bushing and instant fix. Now the '16 does it too at around 64 mph. I guess I'll be doing it to the new truck too. Last time I bought the bearing and the removal tool, then sold it and now can't remember to who. Are you on here, does this sound familiar to anyone?

Took my truck to another dealer. They also acknowledged the intermittent hum as an issue. They took it a step further. Had my truck for 6 days. Replaced the entire front differential, needle bearing and axel. The intermittent hum hum is gone. They found abnormal side wear on the bearing and the diff gear.
Problem fixed for now.
I'm happy my truck is starting to drive as designed. TSB-0077-16 fixed the reverse to drive delay, TSB-0053-16 fixed the whistling on the hwy.
Now if I can get the surging while reversing slowly on an incline, frequent shifting and deceleration brake pressure loss and the bump after stopping fixed I'll be happier.

These dealers are robbing Toyota blind when they know the needle bearing design is a flaw but shame on Toyota for knowing about it as well and not building a new part to fix the issue. Really strange how all this works. Either way i hope the humming never comes back for you. Keep us posted.

Update: over 1000 miles and still no hum. So far so good. :)

Did you have a lift on your truck at the time they replaced the front differential, needle bearing and axel? Is there a TSB for this repair? I know you commented on another thread for me to just get the ECGS bushing to fix my issue and be done with it. If there is something they can do factory, I'd rather try that. How's yours riding to date?

The hum hum from the needle bearing is fixed. The TSB did not cover the replacement of the front diff. That's something the tech found while in there. I don't know what exactly fixed the hum. I'm happy it's gone :D
I know they did the TSB-0026-15 at first and it did not fix the issue. It replaces the factory needle bearing with another crappy needle bearing. They then kept my truck for another 5 days. They did something to fix it but I don't know what. It did not fall under any TSB.
For all I know they could of put the ECGS bushing in which will fix it and charged all the other work to get paid.

Yes my truck had the lift, it's been lifted since I bought it. My truck is awesome other than the transmission is dumb. Not a smart tranny. It needs to be re educated.

If you have an aftermarket lift Toyota will decline any issues with the needle bearing. If they installed the lift they will fix it. Otherwise... They will not touch the truck until the lift is removed. Most likely the hum will go away after the lift is removed. Get the ECGS bushing installed it's $60 and a shop should charge $200. $260 and it's rated to last longer than the truck. It will fix the annoying hum from the needle bearing that was caused by the lift. Get back to loving your taco.

Have 2015, 22,000 miles, with 2 inch leveling kit. Got the hum and vibration from bearing at 35 mph and went away at 45 mph. That needle bearing is just so flimsy. Drained diff and put in 85w140. Noise completely gone. Guess the heavier oil creates cushion, thicker film between bearing and shaft. Not just masking the sound, vibration felt in pedals and floor board gone also.
