2017 TRD OFF ROAD DC - Surging when coming to a stop

Hi y’all. Well, few months has gone by, and I’ve gotten used to the gimmicky engine. Have added nerf bars, window deflectors, tonneau cover, and loaded up all the compartments. Still hate the grille style, no matter what there is out there to replace the stock unit, just don’t like it.

Anyways, I’ve driven lots of vehicles on and off-road, and it feels like the truck tries to surge a little when I come to a stop. At first I thought maybe I wasn’t using the pedal enough, since it was brand new and I was taking it easy during the break in period. However, I definitely feel it. It’s as though it revs a little bit when you start coming to a stop.

Anyone else experienced or heard of this? First dealer service at 5K is in a few weeks, so I’d like to be informed.

My 2017 does this. I have a case open with corporate and at this time they say it’s normal. I’m hoping that if enough people call them and complain they will do something about it.
I would suggest telling the dealer. They will say it’s normal. Then call toycorp and open a case. They will send someone to take a ride with you. They will hook up the lap top and sit in your passenger seat monitoring everything while you drive and try to duplicate it... then say it’s normal.
I feel like it’s a down shift from the transmission or the engine going from Otto to Atkinson. It also feels like the brakes go out for a split second which was my main concern and what prompted me to contact corporate.
Let’s see his taco of yours. Sounds like you’ve done some stuff to it. What tonneau cover did you go with?

I noticed this more in my truck when it was new and after I’ve disconnected the battery and the ECM was reset didn’t have the “learned” driving patterns.
I truly don’t notice it anymore.
I hate you guys are having trouble. Hopefully if enough people complain it’ll be looked into.
 
I noticed this as well when I first started. truck and slowly pull out of garage it surged .I felt that was a little funky, but I've only put about 30 miles on it since I bought it ?
 
The dodge dart I rented in Moab last year did it wicked when it was cold and went to backup ! It had 1200 miles on it

Sorry. I was asking Nancy. He said normal since 05’ and I asked if he was talking about axel wrap. I know what you’re talking about. It’s the clunk while slowing down. Mine does it after I go below 15mph and continue to slow down. I feel the clunk or hard down shift between 5 and 10mph most of the time.
 
Mine does this too pulling in to my garage and it’s scary because I feel like I’m going to hit the shelves in front of me. It’s like everything loosens up and all of a sudden, out of nowhere the truck requires more brake force to stop it.
 
I noticed a surge this weekend when driving the taco . If you sitting stopped and just slightly turn the steering wheel the idle jumps up about 300 rpm and the truck lurches a little has anyone experienced this yet ?

It’s the power steering. It’s normal. Anything that is ran off the engine will have an effect on the idle. Ac, brakes, power steering can all cause an increase. You just notice it more when stopped.

Like @OR17TRD said, it’s normal. If anything puts a load on the engine like the power steering pump then the RPM will increase. Otherwise it would kill the motor.
