2018 Tacoma Sport TRD

good morning Tacos , I recently bought a 2018 Tacoma Sport TRD I just wish I would have read more about these trucks before purchasing it, the ticking sound in the engine is annoying, the lack of power is bad the inside of the van feels like an old car having issues, anyways I’m not here to talk about all the bad stuff, I just want to know if anyone has found a solution to this? Since the dealership seems to say it’s normal it is not for me.
 
The Tacoma is a great truck. If you check out other threads on the forum you'll read about it's more than ample towing power. It's not designed to be a quarter mile hole-shot power house. However, once you get it broke in you should see a bit of improvement here as well. I have a 16 SR5 and it has no problem in the "gitty-up-go" zone. Some of the guys on here told me to "Drive it like you stole it" and that's when I felt the power the Taco has. Dont do that until you get a few thousand miles of break in though. As far as the ticking under the hood, you'll get use to it. Give it some time and let it get use to you and your driving style and I think you'll enjoy the truck.

Welcome to the forum.
Toyota tick has been around since the 80’s it’s a normal sound the Toyota pickups and Tacoma’s makes some are a little louder than other for some reason. Like @Scott Wyman said don’t be afraid to drive it. It’s not a V8 and won’t win races but it will get you where your going.

Totally understand tacos are great trucks , so the vibration inside the cab while I’m at idle is normal just want to have a piece of mind.

Tacomas sometimes have an odd idle pattern, mine will sometimes "lurch" when I get put it in gear, but if the vibration doesn't smooth out after a couple hundred miles if break-in I'd take to the dealer and have them take a look.

Welcome to the forum. Toyota definitely doesn't seem to be trying to compete with the competition with these trucks but they are still great trucks. Look into Orange Virus Tuning, I've used them for 3-4 months and couldn't be more pleased. A lot of engine noises went away with the tune as well. A lot of people have put sound deadening material in the doors when they did the Kicker upgrade, I didn't do it with the speakers but want to along with behind the back seat. Best of luck!
 
When ya get more miles on the Taco......cruise down the hiway n puch that throttle. You’ll feel that 3.5L come to life. Its not a Camaro or Mustang as Craw n OR said above but its got more power than what most folks think.

LOL......Let it rev is right! Was on my way home after work and got stuck behind a combine and tractor. Once I got around 'em I kicked 'er in......was pulling 4K and that 3.5L was awake! It's not a camaro or mustang but I like it!

That’s exactly right. It’s the old saying “run it like you want it to run”. I heard that my whole life. It’s true.
I run the 18 with my foot in the pedal. I don’t speed or dog it. But I run it.
It does so much better than babying it too bad.
The ECU learning in these trucks is a real thing.
I had the ‘17 Sport and had to drain the ECU to fix the head unit. My truck ran like crap for a few hundred miles till I got it back to where it was.
 
Also, from experience I can say that the 2018 runs a lot smoother out of the gate. And it handles cruise a lot better. I guess they’re finally getting it right with the TSB fixes and changes.
