2020 sr cold start rattle

Imo all the popular name brand synthetic motor oils are all top shelf, it just comes down to small differences in additive packages that make them up.

Ive been using mobil one oil and filter for the past year. Small improvement over the lower quality brands so it’s all I use. Doesn’t fix it though.

Truck seems to rattle less when it’s below freezing but it can still rattle regardless of temperature. Sometimes i get lucky and it won’t rattle for a few days or week bit alas, to bad the solution isn't as simple as using a better oil.
So far mine hasn’t done the cold start rattle and it has been minus 32 degrees Fahrenheit for the past week. It’s hasn’t done it for 9 days now. The oil brand difference fixed it for me as of now.

Y can they Not replicate it?
They kept it for a week. Started it every morning. Mine will do that. Sometimes it does it every cold start for a week, and then NOT do it at all for months. I have OCD about this and have kept notes of all sorts to see the common factor of when it makes the rattle. So…….the week I left it with mechanic, it was cold all week, like 20’s at night, 30’s at cold start. Almost never makes that noise when it’s cold and stays cold. For sure 100% it is linked to temperature changes. It’s most likely to make the noise when it gets into the 30’s or 40’s at night, then is 50 or 60 at cold start. Does not make the noise ALL summer. I mean never, starts completely noise free all summer. Fall and Spring, or winter warm spells make it happen. I use the truck every day for work, so it’s hard to time the weather with leaving it with the shop….They scoped oil pan, took valve cover off, inspected the cam phasers from the top and checked the chain. “Cleanest top end we have ever seen, chain tight, phasers looked good. Your video does not convince us of a cam phaser issue. No recommended solution for now.”

Time to find another dealer, or another truck. Latter is recommended for those that suffer from OCD.
I did stay at a holiday inn express one night.

I hope I don't jinx myself, but my 2020 sr5 v6 is suppose to make all sorts of mechanical sounds being direct fuel injection, but its pretty quiet vs others I've heard, plus its got very good low end power that others complain they don't. A fishing buddy that had a gen3 swears its got a tune in it, as it runs nothing like his that had the same 3.5 engine. I've told him more than once its all stock. He thinks it may have gotten the 3.5 camry, or lexus 3.5 engine by some error that has 300 + hp.
