Currently you have
285/70/17 = 32.7x31.2
285/65/17 = 31.6x31.2
If they make that tire size in your tire you would loose an inch of height.
I would change the rims to have the right back space and offset.
A rim with a 0 offset or a -6 works well with the 3" lift and 285/70/17.
I have 285/75/16 with 3" with -6 offset and if I hit a hard bump and I'm turing into it I'll get rubbing still. I know what it is and where it's happening but it doesn't bother me.
Let us know what the Tate bro's say about the wheels.
That's a little more than I would have gone. I have almost the same set up my tires are 0.1" taller than yours but your -12 off-set will push the tire out 0.25" further than my -6 offset which might be causing more rubbing when turning and hitting bumps.
I'll get rubbing when I'm turning at higher speeds into a hard bump. If I go slow I don't get it. Changing my driving habits some reduced the times I get rubbing. It doesn't bother me when it happens because I know what it is and why it happens.
You can either get a rim with 0 or -6 offset, decrease your tire size to 285/65/17, heat and mold the wheel well or trim it more or you can change your driving habits and live with the occasional tire rub.
Yeah that will put you 1.18" closer to the UCA. Or .12" closer than stock it might be ok but you won't have the look of the wider stance. If that's something you are trying to keep. This off-road place said I should get +18 offset .... sounds drastic

If you have a sport with the lower wind/air skirt/dam or mud flaps it might rub on one of those. Otherwise it should be just fine.A question for you... Do you to think the 0 offset wheels would have solved your rubbing problem without doing the wheelwell trim as well? Or was the trim necessary in addition to the 0 offset wheels in your opinion? I'd love to run 285/70/17s as well, but don't want to modify/trim body if I don't need to.
Pulled the air dam off a little while ago. Figured I should before a root or rock did while I'm on a trail. Although I don't think the air dam extends to where a tire could run on it, but I could be wrong. And no mudflaps so no worries there. If you have a sport with the lower wind/air skirt/dam or mud flaps it might rub on one of those. Otherwise it should be just fine.

So what is the final configuration?I realized I never replied back. So with my new rims at 0 offset, everything works now. I've heard no rubbing since I made the change. Thanks for always helping me
