4 cylinder air cleaner(s)?

Hey, new guy here
I bought a 2007 base Taco 2 months ago. I’m changing out the air filter just now & I noticed that in addition to the regular filter, there’s another one built into the lid of the box. It’s filthy - so I am going to clean it out. I would like to replace it also (or remove it altogether). Any advice or information on the correct course would be appreciated.

That's the charcoal element. It blocks gasoline fumes from backing up the intake and escaping to atmosphere. It's not a serviceable part and doesn't cause a restriction if your looking for more power.
