A/C screeching noise, blinking light

Couldn't find any threads on this using search, so made an account to ask:

A few days ago I went to turn on my A/C and there was a squealing, screeching noise for a few seconds, then it stopped and the little indicator light on the A/C button started flashing, then the screeching stopped. Fan is blowing air just fine, but it's not cold at all.

Any ideas for trouble shooting and repair?

2008, 6 speed manual, V6, 170k miles

Thanks,

S

Welcome! Sounds like its out of freon. Could also be the relay switch in the fuse box under the hood is out and not allowing the A/C clutch to engage.

A flashing light means the compressor RPM and engine RPM do not match. Try spinning the center section of the compressor by hand. It will have resistance but you should be able to turn if. If you can't turn it then it's locked up. You'll need a new compressor, dryer, condenser and a system flush because the failed compressor could have pushed metal into the system. This can ruin the new compressor.

This ^^^^^

It is usually only the clutch on the compressor! 25$ on eBay and about one hour easy job if you are handy. Full of video on the web ! I already changed 2 on my 2013 2.7l Tacoma [emoji106]

My God, I'm so tired of such a thing as my air conditioner does not work well, maybe I should call specialists who can clean it for me?

Everything is evident here. If there was noise at first, and then everything started flashing, your radiator did not work correctly. And what happened to it, you can ask, then I will answer. Most likely, the radiator is dirty, and because of this, warm air is blown out. You probably haven't cleaned it that often, have you? I recently applied to the air conditioning cleaning service airconservicingsingapore.com because I had a mold smell in the apartment. It scared me. But then I was asked about how often I did chemical cleaning of the air conditioner, and I replied that I do it once every six months. So, everyone, there was shocked by my answer :)
