Adjustment rear window ARE topper

I have a 2014 taco with a Z series ARE topper. The rear window doesn't open beyond horizontal leaving it dangerously low for head smacking. My dealer says I should put a 4 inch lift on it to resolve the problem. I find it hard to believe it should not go up higher or is non-adjustable. Anyone have any experience or thoughts? Thanks.
 
I contacted ARE directly and they want me to go back to the dealer and then have the dealer work with their tech staff. Was hoping someone had some experience with these so I can avoid going back to the dealer and resolve the issue otherwise.
