Best price or should I work em for more discount?

I bought a 2018 trd offroad 2 months ago with a msrp of 40k and I was able to get it at 5k under msrp. The trick is to make the dealers compete. Get the current deal you have and send it to all the Toyota dealers in a 150 mile radius. I live in Miami and no dealers here in Miami were able to even come close to this deal. I called a dealer in fort-Myers fl and they did give me the price I wanted. One of the dealers in Miami that I was negotiating with called me to ask if I was still going to buy the truck from them and when I told them the price that I was getting it for at fort-Myers he flat out told me that I was going to waste my time because that had to be a lie. I told him that I was going to fort-Myers anyways and 2 hours later his manager called me and told me that she was going to match the price! The reason you got them to come down $4600 on the price was the trade. If you didn’t have a trade they wouldn’t have done it. They’ll make $5000 on your trade and sold a new vehicle. The more new vehicles they sale the more toyota gives them and they make bonuses on volume of new car sales.

Yea...I sold toyotas for awhile.I know my manager..he wasn't giving big discounts on a taco. The reason....there isn't a high profit margin on them....and he would sell every damn one we could fit on a truck at sticker..or damn close!!!

I worked for a Toyota Dealership too. The trade is what gave you the “discount” of 4600 which is hella good. But without a trade most I’ve seen then lower the price maybe 1500 only because they know the person is going to buy everything in the back and they will still get their monthly quota and the finance managers will make money on the back end too.

Have them send you the itemized list of what the truck has, like the packages it comes with. Usually dealerships like to get a base model add window tint $500, N2 in tires for about $250 add cheap carpet/mud mats for $375, plus any accessories like I think they were called shark steps and or tube steps I forgot the name but they will charge you like $900. Anyways by the time everything is all said and done it will be another $2500 to $3000 before taxes in just add ons. You might have a plain Jane one but look closed what they “add”. Also don’t get fooled it don’t cost the dealer this much for all this stuff at all.

With Toyota its even worse because Southeast Toyota is notorious for adding on crap for exorbitant prices. Back in the day they got in a lot of trouble because they were forcing dealers to take a bunch of crap that they added on or they wouldn’t allocate the dealer any cars. I don’t know how it is now because I was turned off by that M.O. and haven’t really looked at Toyota’s since. On this truck we are getting it as it arrived from the factory so SE Toyota didn’t add anything to it. The dealer wants to add Nitro, Pinstriping window tinting and some form of interior protection and waxing the car. They list it as worth $1,995 [emoji23] and they are down to $649. I’m trying to get rid of it altogether. My last offer to them was $34,000 OTD......I hope they go for it, my son is chomping at the bit for this truck!

I think the 'discount offer' is based more so regionally. I ALWAYS heard you will not get more than $1,500 OFF MSRP on a Tacoma, let alone a TRD one…

I know in Arizona they add around $2K to every car/truck sale for any make or model...then you have to deal with trying to get money off the MSRP on top of this. I live on the East Coast and I just picked up a Tacoma TRD Off-Road with the extended cab and 6 foot bed.. Was able to work $6K off sticker… as for my trade, a 15 year old truck.. it was no BIG win for them despite it having sentimental value to me and well taken care of.

It varies where you get it from. Usually $500-1000. A dealer will offer it from a company that they’ll get a kickback from but you can usually get it from your finance company also.
A lot of times I’ve been able to get it thrown in with negotiations.
I always get it though because if tragedy strikes and you total the vehicle you’re left footing the bill for the rest of the loan over depreciation value.
Also try your insurance agent. Some offer Gap on their policies

When they actually ran the car fax on the trade the mikes were rolled back. It actually had 196k miles in 2016. It was closer to 325k miles. I know the previous owner. My trade wasn’t worth that Much

I posted this in another thread as well, sorry for the dupe:

The latest offer we’ve received is $32,500 on a car that stickers for $36,638 which includes SE Toyotas $649 Dealer fees and $309 for mats. Then they are adding in taxes and reg fees of $137 + doc fees of $669 for a walkout price of $34,282. My target all along has been $34,000 OTD with 2.9% financing so we’re close.

The negotiation is a bit challenging because my son is locked into Quicksand MT and they are rare and because there are no packages added the margins are a bit skinnier.

Thoughts? This is our first Tacoma and i know we will have to buy a lot of stuff to outfit the truck the way we want it, like a cover, locks on the tailgate, better speakers etc.

THANKS!!!!

It’s as basic as you can get a TRD sport for, hence the sticker price of $$35,989. I imagine that makes the margins a bit skinnier for the dealer. It is the Double cab w/5’ bed and do not believe it has any other extra accessories or packages other than carpet mats for $309.

I got my 2018 Sport with sunroof, JBL, Tonneau, leather trim, TRD shift knob etc for $35k out the door. Pit two dealers against each other and you'll see the prices start falling. Eventually one of the dealers will break and back out. Then you're pretty well good to pull the trigger.

Tell them you’ll do the $34,282 if they put a pro grille on or give you a platinum extended warranty with it or something like that. Get something extra added you want to it. Pro tail lights, pro head lights, pro skid plate, pro fog lights all look better than the TRD sports IMO. Or make them come down the $282 they aren’t usually going to look a deal over a few hundred dollars but I’ve seen them walk away for less.

Good points. I figure i still have some leverage because i now have two dealers with the car we want AND we can always credibly say we’ll just wait for the 19’s. Then they are stuck holding the bag on trucks with manual trannies, never an easy sell. [emoji1303]

I’m trying to help my son buy his first nice vehicle. He’s in lust for a TRD Sport with manual Tranny in quicksand. The best price I’ve gotten so far is a Costco deal:

Sticker- $35989
Sell- $33172
OTD- $34988 (mostly tax and the $650 doc fee)

I tried searching for a prices paid thread with no luck and because I’m not normally looking for a truck. I don’t know if this is a good enough deal or not.

Thanks.
It all depends location of dealers and states with prices. But in all reality the price difference is only going to be 1000-1500$. I purchased my trd off road access cab inferno orange on a manager special with a couple add ons(predator side steps and the orange accent interior) for 33,500$ of course it was sitting on the showroom, lol. They started at 34,900$. I was upside down 3k on my trade in(early lease trade). I paid them 3k in cash for my depreciation and they took off 1400$ for the tacoma. I scratch their back, they be happy and give discount. It's all about what you have for them and negotiating.

The dealers final offer, that we intend to accept tomorrow morning, is $33,000 OTD. So tomorrow by noon my son will be the proud owner of a brand new Tacoma TRD Sport DCSB MT in Quicksand! He is very excited!!!

Thanks to all for your input. I expect he will be on this forum a bit.

Cheers!

Not like that all the time. I know, maybe loan is not the smartest decision, especially if we're talking about cars. But there is always but. I think this article https://plscashadvance.com/are-no-credit-check-cash-loans-real.html might be useful for you (not a spam), before making a final decision.
