Deposit down....extended care plan?

Hi all,

I put a deposit down on a 2018 double cab short bed TRD sport in magnetic grey with a manual trans. Build date is March 30 and I have until delivery to decide if I want an extended care plan.

I think the dealer told me it was $2100 CAD for the platinum extended care plan for 5 years/100,000 km (62,000 mi). I drive roughly 20,000 km per year. This includes the first few services as well as the other inclusions with the platinum plan.

Is this worth it? Any suggestions or alternatives to the platinum plan?

Don’t get the extended care plan that’s just a few oil changes, tire rotations and maybe some new plugs. $2100 for some services that won’t cost that much is not worth it. You will get the first 4 years or 4 services free so your paying $2100 for the next 3 years of service or 3 oil chances, 6 tire rotations and a tune up. Not worth $2100. IMO.

Vehicle service agreement or a VSA platinum $0 deductible I would highly recommend. I would not pay $2100 for a 5 year/100,000 plan. If you drive 20k a year they have a 6/125000 or 7/125000 and even an 8/125000 if you might not drive 20k every year. This is only worth it if you plan on keeping the truck longer than 2years. It comes with the 3/36 and 5/60 warranty. You can also shop around and see what other dealers will offer. You can purchase the VSA from any dealer within the state the vehicle was purchased. It pays to shop around, you can save a lot of money.
This is the max I would pay on any of them.
Toyota VSA, Platinum coverage with $0 deductible:
6 yr / 75K - $610.00
6 yr / 100K - $835.00
7 yr / 75K - $680.00
7 yr / 100K - $950.00
8 yr / 75K - $785.00
8 yr / 100K - $1050.00
8 yr / 125K - $1365.00
That will give you an idea on nagotiations.
You can also purchase one at any time. You can wait until you have 30k miles on the truck and then buy one. You’ll pay about the same either way.
Waiting will at least let you know if your truck has issues or not.

The extended care plan covers more than the standard warranty as well. Still not worth it in your opinion?

It has nothing to do with the warranty it’s a maintenance package. It’s an expensive addition to their 2 year toyota care. This is what you get for free. It extends that another 1-3 years. D35787E7-2A97-4A84-BFC9-16BD889708ED.png
 
I would get the plan. When I bought my truck, they discounted it, $600.00 for the plan and the undercoating (Canada lots of salt) was discounted $300.
 
I don’t think we get that ToyotaCare plan in Canada. I don’t see anything like it on their website. I think the ECP Platinum plan starts at the same time as the basic warranty. I think it’s just a service plan though, which for $2100 isn’t worth it. It’s not super clear to me what exactly it offers in terms of a warranty above and beyond the basic warrant.

Pmhoskin, you got the platinum plan in Canada for $600?
