Extended differential breather

Has anyone performed this modification to their Tacoma? How important is this mod? I live in a cold and wet climate so I'm considering installing one to extend differential fluid life.

I did it years ago on my 2002 as a preventative step just in case.

TacomaWorld has approximately 237,562 threads on this. I don't know why it would extend fluid life in a wet climate. The idea is to keep a hot differential from sucking water in through seals when it suddenly cools going through deep water. I did mine with two standard Toyota parts and some hose from my local auto parts store and relocated up into the tail light well. Easy-peasy, took under an hour. Some say it's bull, others say "why not do it?" I do cross streams where I live, so I did it.
