Do not try to force the door if it doesn't close. Instead, have you tried working something like Pb blaster into the hinge to unstick it. These doors for the last 25 years get sticky if not lube at least once a year, it's part of routine maintenance. I found spraying fluid flim into the hinge works well for a long time.
