Never really noticed the tacoma needing sound deadening. My trucks pretty tight. It's no noisier than my gen1 tundra was. A friend older tacoma has a lot of wind noise...don't know what's up with that. I hope mine doesn't get that way.
tap the bed. Then the doors (after deadening)
You’ll hear the difference. I didn’t deaden for road noise just the music.

Sound deadening does a couple things.

First, is suppress road noise.
2nd, is to suppress sound transmitted externally.

The purpose of the first is to kill the high frequency road noise from tires, engine, drivetrain, etc....... allowing the high frequency sound from the speakers more clarity.

The purpose of the 2nd is so the neighborhood doesn't hear your be-bop bass heavy c-rap 7 blocks away.

The 3rd, is to suppress the body panels from vibrating.

There are actually 2 materials to be used for effective sound damping. The first is to add mass to the body panels to suppress vibration. This is usually a dense material made of butyl. The panel only needs about 50% coverage of the surface. The 2nd material is the sound absorbtion material. This is typically a foam type product needing 100% coverage of the surface.

Do your research on this subject. There are definite benefits for the sound quality of the sound system. Easy to spend excess without benefit.

I have a factory tonneau cover, if I sit in the cab, and have someone open the tailgate, it's the same as my tundra was without a bed cover. I don't listen much at all to my radio, or any music. Overall the trucks pretty quiet. Only real noise I hear is these tires on certain types of asphalt.

I was am static talk show zombie for years. Then I realized (again) the magic of a melody.

Wind noise typically comes from worn or torn weather stripping. I had to replace the strips on the driver's door and access door. Simple job, cost not too bad...... about $75. Sure killed the wind whistle at 65 mph.
Only 75$. For door weatherstrip?
Was it dealer oem sourced?

Effective way to keep them in good shape.

Clean them as part of every truck wash. Occasionally, wipe them down with a bit of silicone spray. Be sure to remove the excess spray. Dirt and sticking are the destroyers of weather strip. Age still happens.
