How to update Toyota nav maps?

On the 2016 Tacoma how do you update the navigation system maps? Does it automatically update?
 
Asked the dealer the same question.
For a mere $170 a year they will sell you an update map.
On the other hand most if not all Garmin products now come with lifetime map updates.
 
Read the reviews about link.
Sounds like it has potential but needs work. Lots of work.
Worth the price though.

Plan on trying it tomorrow.
