Ideas for carrying a 10' kayak?

Like the title says, I'm looking for thoughts on how best to cart around a 10' kayak on a double cab short bed. I don't really want to go with a ladder rack. I have the roof rack, but I am not sure I have enough span between front and back to feel good about the mount. Anyone out there deal with this? I have ample Yakima accessories, but haven't yet tackled finding the right towers. I have a DiamondBack HD cover on order for the bed. Taking all ideas!

I can throw 2 10ft's in the back with maybe 2ft hanging over the tail gate.

Negligence on your part does not constitute a emergency on my part

So, I found that Yakima makes a mount to fit a factory bar that let's me adapt my Mako Saddles and Hully Rollers for direct mounting on the Toyota rack. I ordered them up and will see how they work. Now I need to figure out how to carry my baitcast rods -- they are all over 7 feet. I need to get back on the water...

Workstar Hitch Truck Bed Extender, keeps the boat off the roof and easy to load and unload, but there is the overhang.

I bought some Yakima Universal Mighty Mounts to adapt my existing Maco Saddles and Hully Rollers to the Taco bars. I just haven't had opportunity to put it all together yet. Perhaps this weekend... Still have to figure out hot to transport my baitcast rods, all 3 are over 7 ft and one piece. I will post pics as soon as I manage to get it all together.

OK, so here's my solution. Good news is it's as secure as the rack. Bad news is the same. The factory rack just really isn't all that rigid. The other challenge is getting it up there, but a little bit of PVC and a cheep noodle float secured with some rope to the tie downs on the cover worked well to protect both boat and truck. Being able to stand on the cover makes the rest pretty easy. Now off to road test because the bass are calling to me for an early morning trip to the lake.
