i've never been to San Antonio!
but I have ventured to Waco Dallas and most recently Amarillo
did you know that a long long highway starts in Sioux City Iowa and runs deeep into southern Texas?

I-35 is good enough. Although, after crossing the OK/TX border I-35 gets pretty insane, then it morphs into intense south of DFW.
San Antonio, San Marcos, Cibilo, Schertz and surrounding areas are very nice. If you ever get there, take some time to enjoy the Schlitterbahn in San Marcos. IIRC, its the only water park using stream water that is fed by a spring. Very cool, refreshing and fun. Fantastic BBQ, incredible Tex/Mex food, River Walk, Alamo, Lone Star Brewery, NO SNOW/ICE......

i am not into paying that tollway through Kansas!
got nabbed recently on an Illinois tollway to wisconsin because it was late in the evening and i was tired of trying to find the tollfree highway
it cost 190c to go a few miles
plus the time involved of going online to PAYtollit cannot be any more intense than some of the Chicago traffic ways that are NON-tolled

Yes, Chicago is intense.
Although, I-35 has a new level. 85+ mph with less than a car length spacing, door handle to door handle, 100s of miles. always some ding-dong wanting to pass at 90 mph, plus you have the tailgaters and the brake light flashers. Defensive driving is out, offensive is out.....only aggressive driving will permit survival. I-35 between DFW/Austin/SA is completely off-the-scale of insane

i hope they have a slow traffic keep right lane in DFW and don't have people passing on the right breakdown lane like around here to Lincoln on i80
Chicago is mostly fun if you're in no hurry
20 to 30 minutes to go a 1/2 mile lol at the edens and dan ryan or JANE BYRNE INTERCHANGE
wheeling the clutch bumper to bumper makes all the difference in that racket... keeps you occupied!

A bit of history about the Alamo. Yes, it was a lost battle. The Alamo battle delayed the Mexican army long enough for Sam Houston to muster an army to fight the Mexican army. The battle took place in the swamps south of Houston. The Mexican army was defeated. Texas became independent from Mexico after that.

is travel by car for USA citizens to deep southern Texas unadvisable at this time?
i see & hear chatter and am confused if the authorities have a handle on everything ill that i keep hearing and seeing on the news
not ready to travel into a 3rd world kinda place, its why i stayed far away from Minneapolis a couple years ago

The southern border is a mess under the current administration. They are expecting more the 10,000 illegal crossings each day when Title 42 expires. Yet the elected poeple say the border is in control and secure....... I'm not convinced. I think the estimate for illegals entering the USA this year is pushing 2M people........
I wouldn't hesitate to travel to the southern states. Although, I'd be more aware of my surroundings and never offer rides or pick up hitchhikers. When the car is parked, be sure it is empty of all belongings and locked. When touring, make sure you are a harder target than the people next to you. Put a rubberband around your wallet, place it in your front pocket. Carry no cash, only CC. Store the CC phone numbers in an accessible place. The phone number on the back of the card is no good if you don't have the card. Cell phones are an easy target. Generally, these are snatched when the owner is talking, texting or photographing. The owner is distracted and not aware of their surroundings. Don't carry the cell in your hand. Secure it in a belt pouch or your front pocket like your wallet. If using a belt pouch, place it on your front near the belt buckle. Carry nothing that you cant afford to lose.
These are simple precautions. I learned these simple things while I was living abroad. An American in China is a prime target, because Americans are perceived as being rich with loads of money. If I had loads of money, why would I be working in a foreign country???

I like the cold, the more brutal and bitter the better
as long as the wind is calm i can brave upto 20 below zero with nothing but a very light jacket with warm pockets and a knitted winter hat for much longer than i probably should LOL
so this coming week is going to be a neat treat with several days of lows under zero

Colorado native here now a proud Texan. Stationed 2x at Killeen/Ft Hood, 2x at El Paso/Ft Bliss, San Antonio/Lackland AFB, and now Retired here in North Texas and this time I'm staying. Love it here and always have. Still looking for that Colorado/New Mexico smothered burrito here in Denton County but can't find one anywhere and don't care for Tex-Mex. I need the authentic stuff

Has anybody ever crossed this border at the very end of US-67 in Presidio, Texas and starts in eastern Iowa on the Mississippi river

The Presidio Ojinaga International bridge toll is $3 for passenger vehicles and $0.25 for pedestrians. There is no charge for crossing the border as such, but you will need to complete some paperwork. If you stay in Mexico will be longer than seven days you will have to pay a fee.
