Dude, seriously, lighten up. First of all, I don't have any issues. I have a '15 and it's fine. Second, the info you are relating doesn't pass the smell test. There are numerous complaints about different problems and somehow they are all getting muddied into one problem that has two fixes.
Excessive shifting is different than "lurching" or not going into Drive etc. Excessive shifting is by design. Engines run more efficiently at a fixed RPM. In order to keep the engine at it's optimum RPM, the trans will shift constantly. It's why all vehicles are coming with more and more gears or an infinite number of gears known as a CVT. If Toyo simply plugs in different shift parameters, it WILL CHANGE the miles per gallon and emissions. The EPA WILL NOT ALLOW this without re-certifying the model. Can this be done? Maybe. First, Toyo would have to find a way to meet the EPA standards while improving the drive-ability. If they could have done this easily, they would have made the trucks like that in the first place. Then, they would have to run the truck through the EPA certification process and then update the computers on the trucks.
This is happening all across the board with consumer products. 15 years ago, I got a new dishwasher. The thing was great. No matter what you through in it, the dishes came out spotless like a commercial. 4 yeas later, I bought a new house and spec'd out the EXACT SAME DISHWAHER down the the last digit on the model number. Guess what? It sucks. It's noisy and if you don't wash the dishes by hand first, they come out dirty. Being under warranty, I got the manufacturer out to the house to "fix" it. Guess what? You can't because it's working properly. In the time between the first and second washers I bought, the EPA changed the standards and now they pretty much have to use no water or electricity.
It's like the 1.6 gallon toilets. Some asshole in Washington 20 years ago decided that toilets using water was bad, and now you have to flush the damn things 3 times.
As for low trans fluid, how the effe could people who assemble precision engine components not be smart enough to figure out how to fill the proper volume of trans fluid? Why are they not adjusting the fluid level when an owner comes in with a complaint? Notice how many posters are still having shifting problems even after getting fluid level adjusted?
So yeah, they could change the shift points with an update and it probably wouldn't take 5 minutes to come up with the new code if they don't already have it, but that is basically what VW did. They used one configuration to pass the EPA tests, and then sent a different one out on the road to make the customers happy. Keep in mind how likely the EPA is going to be to help Toyo. The govt went after Toyo tooth and nail over the BS sudden acceleration crap and tried to run them out of business while helping GM cover up the ignition switch problem that has resulted in something like 30 deaths. Toyo is GM's biggest competitor. Toyo is a non-union company. GM is UAW and owned by obama and his chronies. The govt isn't going to do anything to help Toyo dominate GM.
