Looking for a new Tacoma

Well... Time to replace the 08 Tacoma Access Cab 2.7 l 4cyl 5 sp manual. Looking at the new Gen 3 Tacomas... V-6 of good old 2.7l 4 cyl??? I travel 30k miles a year and tow a small boat up to Ontario a few times a summer. I really love how my brother's 2016 4-Runner (4.0 l auto) tows my boat. How does the new 3.5l work ???? anyone tow with this new engine?? Any advise??

I've towed 1500-1800 lbs including trailer a few times. Didn't really feel it.. wonder.... if the weight was doubled or more how well it would do with a manual transmission? The power is kinda higher up in the rpm mid-range...

There is a few threads about 3.5L 3rd gens towing. They seem to get the job done.

Tow our 5700lbs boat / trailer couple times a year, no problems at all. Had a GMC 1500 Sierra 5.3litre V8 before and the Tacoma tows just as well!

A 1500 GMC 5.3 will out tow a Tacoma ..

I just came from a 06 GMC 1500 automatic 4wd 5.3 HO. I like my Tacoma, but there is no comparison on towing. There is no substitute for cubic inches, horsepower and torque, both at a reasonably low rpm.

Truth from the other fellas in the thread. A half ton full size will always out pull a mid size truck.
They’re made for different purposes truly.

Well.. Thanks for the advise everyone. Just purchased a nice cert. used 2017 Tacoma SR5 Double Cab 4wd 3.5l v-6 with just a tad over 16k miles on the clock. Everyone that I talked to gave me the same advise as this thread.
