Manual trans — trouble shifting into 1st

I don’t want to sound like a jerk but I really feel like this is driver error.

Try moving your seat forward your probably not pushing the clutch down all the way before shifting into 1st. And in the flustered moment don’t realize it.

I have the 18 TRD Sport Manual the same miles with no such issue. Any issue I had was my own.

Being a mechanical issue you should be able to repeat it over and over not once in a while. That and I’m assuming your still getting use to the clutch and shifter.

It’s not driver error when you’re in a parking spot, clutch is fully engaged, and it’s not letting you access first but every other gear is open

But I wish it was driver error, then I’d at least know what was going on. Ha

New development: after parked for awhile, huge clunk when attempting reverse.

Feels like the parking brake is engaged but it isn’t and it takes a good amount of gas to power through the resistance, huge mechanical clunk and bang. Recorded it on video twice and it happened a total of 3x today.

No warning lights, parking brake off, and everything works fine once I’m moving. Reverse is ok after driving for a bit, just that initial parking that does it.

I’m awaiting the dealer response since I emailed them the videos.

I'd take it in for sure

Still awaiting an official diagnosis but I suspect it may be the parking brake freezing to the rear drum brakes — will post what I find out when I get the truck back.

Either way this shouldn’t be happening in 2018.

How that would influence the transmission confuses me. Also seems to confuse the dealer.

It’s likely an entirely separate issue but since I was the OP on this thread I threw it in here.

You’re right, def unrelated but potentially trans related.

When I got the truck back they logged my new issue for the record but didn’t do any fixes.

Separately also had the TSB 0059-18 for disabling the pre-collision system done but it didn’t seem to work. It restarts when the truck is turned back on again — I’ll be going back.

Hey there this is happening to my 17 pro manual right now. What happened with yours? The dealership thinks I’m nuts lol. I noticed a correlation of my rear parking sensor beeping the whole time it’s in reverse but with nothing around me. When this happens my truck will not drive I thought it felt like it was stuck in the mud, but it does feel like the rear brakes are on. Almost a resistance on my bed and I can’t move. It I pump and move it through gears like it’s an 83 Toyota it goes fine, but it’s not an 83 it’s a 17 I bought off the lot. It should not have the same issues a 40 year old truck has. I have video of mine doing the beep and then my dash showing my truck not even rev as I give it gas to go and then stalls. Please let me know how you handled this? I’m thinking of trying out a tundra.

As a 3rd gen 6MT owner here, try letting the clutch up from the floor SLOWLY as you put the lever in first or reverse. That works for me when your described issues arise.
