MPG on gen2 4cyl AT is poor... What might be going wrong

I've had very good results with Michelin Defender LTX M/S.
Just the opposite years ago on my tundra...at over $200 per tire, they lasted no longer than a set of goodyears, but the kicker was...once 1/2 worn the traction on snowy roads was horrible...worse than other tires brands I had tried. Imo, michelins are overpriced, and overrated.

Yeah, the set (4) with mount, balance, TPMS, disposal, tax and tires was a pinch over $1500.

Sorry about your luck. My experience is very different.

I guess I've been spoiled. A snowmobile buddy is a tire salesmen for a large tire company here in the state. I never paid more than $900 for a set of any tires. it was usually around $600.

I try to look for the best tire for my needs at the lowest cost. I've gone through many different brand all season, and all terrain tires over the years. There's not a lot of difference in actual thread wear, and mpg. Some tires have been far less prone to flats, or just better in deep snow, or mud. I can tell with this tacoma, I don't need the best tires as far traction, nor the longest lasting thread wear.
