Needle bearing?

Alright so I've seen the posts about needle bearings going bad after a lift...? How common is this? I'm thinking of upgrading to Bilstein 5100's and a 1.5 block in the back but don't know if I need a dif. drop or not and don't want to do anything that may damage the truck.
Any thoughts for this vast pool of knowledge?

I have a 17 trd, Bilstein 5100's on front with new UCA's and add a leaf in the rear. Mine made noise as soon as that was done. I had needle bearing replaced and it has been good since I'm not an expert but that was my experience.

Was it a warranty item? Or recall. Heard both. Also seems that the malfunction doesn't occur unless you lift it. Love the looks of a lift but may just put on 265/75/16s for one inch overall. Unsure.
 
I have heard Toyota does change them on them but I had someone do mine. They put everything on my truck then I heard it so I took it back and complained. In the end they fixed it for free( but I'm sure they got their money thru my other parts). I run p285/70-17 and sometimes I have a slight rub

Shouldn’t need a diff drop. I’d say 8/10 wont have the issue. You’ve got about a 20% chance you’ll need to replace it. You could get lucky. Some dealers will do it under warranty if you have them install all the parts. A few might do it anyways. No way to tell if your truck will have the hum hum hum until it’s lifted and you’re driving down the road.
It’s most noticeable at 30-40mph on the drivers side.

Thanks OR17TRD. I don't know whether to just go with 265/75/16's and it will lift the entire truck by and inch for now then lift later. Heard those would fit stock on the TRD Off Road. What do you have?
 
At dealer this morning for them to test drive truck. The lift was installed in August of this year and I had the vibration then for a while... even called TOYOTA then but shortly after the vibration simply went away. Poof gone! I was ecstatic. Now I had not used the 4X4 until last weekend going hunting. Guess what, vibration back. I ordered the ECGS bushing because I see that is the fix but since the truck is under warranty I wanted to explore this option. Emailed Toyota on Monday, no response. Drove over there Thursday and the service guy ran from me hiding. I caught the service director and he told me that if it checks out that they would install my part under warranty. We will see... I would still have the bearing puller and the bushing drive set I bought but I will be glad to trade this out to get this fixed. Stay tuned
 
No joy. They denied the warrant. Said they don't repair needle bearings. Only replace main parts and since I lifted it they don't want to touch it. I said to get. South East Toyota involved because they are doing them on brand new trucks.
 
I just changed the needle bearing while I was doing my lift. That’s been more than 6 months ago and no problems.
 
Completely done installing the ECGS bushing. No more him or vibration. Took about 2 hours. Went ahead and changed the dif fluid too. Want too bad. Recomend having an extra set of hands.
