New taco owner

IMG_0617(2).jpg I just got my Barcelona Red, '17, double cab, Limited with 11,600 miles. The dealer couldn't give me detailed info about key fob storage to protect the battery life. Do I need to store the fob a minimum distance from the truck to minimize battery drain? I did get a metal box that will isolate the fob (about the size of a hard case for a pack of cig's).

It's hard to say how long the batteries will last, but they're cheap and easy to replace.
 
Rick, Thanks for the reply. My concern rises from the Mazda key expense. I bought a used Miata and received only one key (it uses a similar fob system). I bought a second key, similar to a valet key to store in a hidden location on the car. When I took it to the Mazda dealer to have it programmed the cost was preposterously high. Secondly, here at the farm our practice is to always leave the keys in the car. That way if it's in the way of something, it can easily be moved. Theft is not an issue, since a thief would have to walk nearly a mile to get here unnoticed--most thieves are too lazy.

Why not use a square of aluminum foil? Just fold it over the keys 4 ways, then open one flap. That way you put your keys in and just close the flap, like an envelope.
 
One could just replace the battery when is goes bad. They are cheap and the truck will still start if its dead.. I wouldn't put too much thought into it
