Hello all! Long time Toyota owner, but got my first Tacoma last week—2018 TRD Off-Road. Wifey bought it for me as a gift after retiring from the Army after 30 years. Looking forward to learning from you all. Right now I’m researching hard-top tonneau covers...any recommendations?IMG_1539309579.721002.jpg

Welcome. Congrats on the Tacoma and thank you for your service. 30 years is a long hitch. I did 4 years Army as 11B 1P.
As far as hard covers I’d probably look at the bakflip. There’s a lot of options out there. It varies with what you’re looking for. Trifold, solid one piece?

Thanks Bogunn! Re the tonneau, I’m looking primarily for a trifold, but can’t decide between a hard top or a canvas top with embedded hard panels. I want to keep the price below $800 and durability & protection from H2O are important. You got one?

In that price range your options are pretty well unlimited for a trifold.
@OR17TRD has a bakflip. If I was going for a hard cover that’s what I’d go for probably.
I have a rugged liner trifold vinyl cover myself. It does great and weighs under 20 lbs. I can have it taken off in about 1-2 minutes.

Congrats on the new Tacoma. Welcome to the forum.
I’ve had the Bakflip MX4 for 20 months on my 2017 OR and have liked it. It’s low profile and flips back to protect the rear window. Cost around $800-1000 new depending on where you buy it.F39B53F1-EBEA-4AC8-925A-FB46A106E849.jpeg

Thanks Bogunn! I pulled the trigger on a Rugged Premium Tri-fold Hardtop cover. It looks very durable, easy to install, and has a LED light on the inside. I should have it installed before the weekend, and I’ll be sure to post a few pics. Appreciate the advice! NTD

Nice! Those are pretty low profile too. I like the looks of them and the bakflip best. Be sure to post pics.
