Paint/Clear Coat Blemishes? 2018 OR

Noticed some blotches and blemishes on the hood of my taco. Anyone seen this? Or anyone with an 18 have this issue?

The blotches are smooth. I've tried buffing them out thinking it was environmental or something, but no improvement.

The hood is the only body panel with this issue. All others are fine from what I can tell.

I'll be taking the truck to the dealer probably tomorrow to have them look at it. Figured I'd see what you all think.

I can see it in the picture. It almost looks like a film on the paint but if it doesn’t buff out I don’t really know what it could be.
Let us know what the dealership says.
 
Yeah, I initially thought the same thing. I scratched at it with my fingernail and it made no difference. The surface is perfectly smooth.
 
I had the same thing it looks like dirt or air bubbles in the clear . They sent it out they said they clay bar the truck ,it looked better. But the dealers are hard to get to do anything. . But even after all of that I bought and used a Mcguires clay bar set and also bought Maguires black wax they are an excellent pair for a dark finished truck. The results are better than showroom

I've got a few clay kits I use for my car. I'll give that a go and see. That's one thing I didn't think to try...
 
So I took the truck to the dealer today and had them look at the paint issue.

Turns out it's a known issue. Basically, the protective wrap the put on the hood (and roof) will leave behind stains after it's pulled off if it was applied right after the parts were painted/cleared.

They also said that during the spring, summer, and early fall, it's hot enough out that the stains bake out and it's a non-issue. But during the winter, they don't go away.

They hit the areas with a heat gun and all is well now.

Service guy mentioned there was a TSB for the issue (didn't get the number though)

Or a $12 harbor freight heat gun

Guy in the service department took one look at it and said, 'heat gun' lol. I let them do it as I was already there, plus they'd be liable for it if it got messed up.

Yes. I would have let them do it too. Good information for sure. For all of us who have that paint issue. At least it’s an easy fix. If you can find out what the TSB is that might help for those dealers that are being “D” bags
 
Hi there,

Just joined this group after picking up my new 2017 Tacoma this week and noticing the same marks on hood and passenger fender.

I’ve been flipping out all day trying to figure out what it is. Only had the truck for a week!

Visited reputable detail shop who had no idea. Made an appointment for dealer next week and hope the issue is this simple.

Thanks for the Info guys! I’ll get off the ledge now

Welcome to the forum. This is a known issue with Toyota. Their fix is to heat the area. Nothing fancy but it works supposedly.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I hit it with a clay bar, soap, water, you name it. No change.

Dealer said it was left over residue from the wrap they put on the hood/roof during shipping. Said it's common on new cars in cold climates.

Weird that a heat gun can fix it when all of that didn’t.
