Plasti-dip vs. Powder coat

Looking to change the looks of my wheels and bumpers. Which way is better? Cost wise, but more importantly, durability wise.

These are two completely different applications you have here. Powder coat is definitely the way to go if you are not worried about money (this actually changes the color). Plasti-dip only covers the surface color and does not change it but it is a WAY cheaper option. So obviously powder coating is the better option and its durable because it actually changes the color.

For me, plasti dip only lasts 1- 2 years if done right, then it starts getting faded and just doesn't look good. You'd have to reapply every year or so. Plasti dip works great for interior parts but it's rough on the outside especially wheels. You get what you pay for I guess. Powdercoating is the way to go in my opinion.

I've had my rims dipped for almost two years now, still look pretty good. They've been trough two Wisconsin winters and a few trails here and there, so there are a few scratches. For about $40 you can't go wrong with the dip. I'm going to reapply this summer with a few more coats( I only applied 4 coats the first time, whoops!).

Here's what my rims looked like the day i dipped them. I was an idiot and dipped the lugs too, which is a big mistake, DO NOT DIP THE LUGS!DSC_1323resize.JPG

Here's a look after about two years, again these rims have seen about 25,000 miles, two winters and a few trails. This is the rim in worst shape of the four. A little abrasions and wear around the center cap and peeling in the dimples of the outer spokes. IMG_0931.JPG

Looks really really good! Can't believe how well it's held up for you.. You might have me sold on plastidip

Dipped the back bumper without removing it from the truck. Just did my first car wash since dipping it and was afraid to go through the automatic ones with rotating brushes. I just got a roll of quarters and did it myself. Surprisingly it has held quite well! I did 8 coats of the matte black with more than enough wait time in between each coat. Also I finished it all by coating it with another 3 layers of clear protection plasti dip. Oh I also did the front bottom originally grey valance. I'm thinking of doing my side mirrors white. Anyone here have any insight to this? Sorry for the poor quality pictures.

The plasti dip should hold up fine in car washes, I've put a pressure washer on mine before

Powder Coat and Only Powder Coat, Plastishit comes off after a while and a few car washes or heavy rain ,snow or sand ! Rubber paint for tool handles not for automotive/truck use, gimmick and junk!

More talking **** with no knowledge about the subject! That's what most of the idiots on here do! Slambo I've pressure washed weekly sport 7.5" rims with black plasti dip on them and none comes off! Only had it on for three months and these rims are going on this week!ImageUploadedByTaco Forum1445915904.939326.jpg
My son had it on silver Accord rims for two years with barely any touch up! I've only spent just under $20,000 on rebuilding my taco in the last four months! So I guess my cheap ass doesn't compare to all the money you spent on yours!? How much in mods so far Rambo? How many years have you been doing this? I bought my first Toyota pick up new in 1988 at 20 years old with no help from mommy and daddy!
