Please help me with getting aftermarket rims

Okay, firstly thank you for looking at my post. I'm desperately trying to figure out what size rims I can fit on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma Access cab stock ride height.
I know the max size is 265/70r17 but I'm confused about the offset and rim width
Should I get the 17x8.5 or 17x9? The pictures I posted are of my options in offset with the two different sizes. If anyone knows the biggest I can fit without lifting please let me know, also if you have recommendations on tires I'd love to hear them! Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out! I had steelys when I first bought my truck too. One rim was out of round and couldn't be balanced. My friends at Discount Tire fixed me up.

Here is the before and after. I got Vision Turbine rims in black. Added a photo with better lighting.

That's a slick looking taco man, do you happen to know if the rims I'm looking at were gonna fit? I'm not sure if the rims you have are the same dimensions or not? I'm mostly just trying to find out about the offset and width

So I went to discount tire and to my luck infront of everyone sitting in the waiting room was rudely and loudly told that my 5 lug 4cyl suspension was not going to fit 265/70r17 and that the guy driving the trd offroad(also sitting in the room) had a real trucks suspension unlike mine which is basically a toy truck in comparison [emoji20] kinda hurts with a little buyer's remorse but hey 1st newer vehicle and I'm proud of it so that's all that matters. I'm just wondering if anyone could give me some insight into what I'm trying to accomplish. Getting the biggest fuel assault rims and tires combo I can on my truck preferably 17s so I can go bigger after I put a better suspension on it. Unless I'm dreaming too big. Seriously though I know everyone tells each other it's been asked a million times but I've been searching so much I dont know if I'm overthinking the information I need or it's not possible. Thanks again everyone

If the employees were rude and talked crap about your truck you should call or email DT headquarters. That kind of behavior is not acceptable from their employees. They are there to help, not harrass.[emoji2959]
Sorry I cant help with your wheel & tire dilemma, I have a 3rd gen SR5.
 
JMO but I wouldn't ask for any advice from Discount Tire, been there once, never going back. Id talk to someone from a place like 4 Wheel Parts or a company that specializes in oversize truck tires, thats their speciality. You may not have the " best" truck to be putting oversized tires on but that doesn't mean it can't be done within reason.
 
I’m with Scott email or call. Most upper management doesn’t know of a problem unless it is addressed to them. I know any good company will try to make sure that doesn’t happen again. You may get a discount on your new wheels and tires that way also. Biggest thing is if it happened to you it has or will happen again. I would call and or email someone.
 
are you an Auto or manual trans OP?
What I've seen is that the 5lug models with manual tend to handle the larger wheels and tires better with their gearing. Your hopes and dreams are a little out of whack with a stock Tacoma. main reasons are clearance and stock gearing.

I just had a 07 5lug auto 4 banger fall into my lap for cheap and the trans code is A01A which might be the worst gearing possible for the auto at 3.42 and not the more common 3.58 which most have. I sit at 2,000rpm at 65mph on the highway. The stock setup REALLY goes for economy. going to a larger size will lower the rpm even more and will make certain rpm ranges slower for acceleration. If I went to like a 30" tire, I bet in most cases, I will likely have to add more throttle to make the trans downshift to go anywhere.

I'm still researching what tire size is going workout best for me but have already splurged on some 16x8 +30 rims. My options are more limited than I thought due to the width I chose and 225s in truck tires are not made to go on a 8" rim. max 7.5. most truck sizes of 225s will look ballooned on an 8 though and I don't want that. stock is 26.9", 235/60/16 is 27.1", 235/65/16 is 28". 235/70/16 is 29". I'm thinking going up to 29s might be a chore on stock auto gearing. 5 lug Manual trans guys appear to use 235/75/15 often which is a 29" but they also raise up with a 2.5/1.75 lift kit most of the time.
