Radar Detectors

I'm in Cincinnati and getting ready to head back home to Florida.

Thinking about getting a radar detector, but read some cars have stuff that interferes with them. I know my truck has a lot of electrical stuff on it. It's a 2018 SR5.

Any of y'all using one with no problems?

I was looking at the Escort Redline 360C.

I Have not ever used one of those,
One year I was pulled over in 3 different counties for going a bit too fast
All 3 were written warnings, so I am not taking any chances if I don't have to LOL
Drive safely!

I had one years ago, don't even remember what brand but I got so many false alerts that it wasn't useful. At the time I was making a weekly trip from Ohio to NC and I finally realized that trying to use the radar detector and cb radio to avert the speed limit was really taxing. I did get to my destination a little quicker but I was really tired. When I just set the cruise control a couple mph over the speed limit and turned on the tunes I'd arrive relaxed and not tired at all. Also radar detectors used to be illegal in VA, don't know if that's still the case or not.

I had a whistler radar detecter back in the day....didn't think anyone used them anymore.
About a Month ago heading into Missouri I was trying to keep up with a beefy dodge ram that was hauling it at least 100+
The taco needed the exercise lol
He suddenly hit the brakes and slowed abruptly
Sure enough there was a trooper hiding in the weeds ahead
Assumptions are the ram had a detector

I haven't used a radar detector in my life and I have no moving violations on my driving record.

Radar detectors, and laser jammers are now legal here in connecticut. As far as i knew they were illegal in quebec. I use the race bikes, and sleds year round back in the 80's, and 90's. New York state was a magnet for me getting speeding tickets. Those radar detectors didn't help a whole lot if those cops had their guns off till it was too close.

I just use Waze… everyone is usually pretty upity up with spreading the word of where the coppers are hiding. It’s cheaper than buying a radar detector that goes off at nothing all the time.

Thankfully the Iowa state patrol was not out one day last week in the Des Moines mixmaster midpoint area
The taco needed some exercise
Missouri state patrol must hide in the weeds because I never saw them but they caught somebody in front of i in an Acura

+1 for Waze if you want to crowdsource your feedback on where they are hiding. Just keep in mind the cops can also push the "not there" button just as fast as cars can flag their location... ;)
(alternative option...don't speed...) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Exactly!!
I spent too much $$ on a speeding ticket once when I was younger...decided that was one of the dumbest ways someone can waste their hard earned cash. I've also paid careful attention on long trips...sure, speeding could get me there maybe 20-30min faster on an 6-8 hour trip, but is that small amount of time worth a few hundred dollars? Now I just keep up with traffic instead, within reason...

More and more I am seeing signs that say photo enforced area
How is that managed
In south Dakota the 80 limit is 'strictly' enforced per the sign crossing the border
Yet I honestly have not seen much for SD troopers the times I travel to there

I do the exactly the same

Same here now....well once in awhile i get the urge to up the speed....just long enough to get it out of my system.
Yeah out on the road where nobody is… it’s funny I used to be an absolute Lead Foot 24/7 when I was a kid snd I had the worst driving record back in the 80’s & early 90’s and was constantly getting speeding tickets to where the judge at the courthouse where I’d go actually knew me by my first name “oh geez here’s Greg agsin!! Another speeding ticket? I even had my insurance company choose to not renew my policy back in the late 80’s LOL.. now my wife just laughs at me telling me to speed up when we’re driving together and tells me I drive like a little old lady LOL. I guess I just got it all out of my system when I was a kid..:)

My radar detector alerts me to red light cameras.

Tell me about it. When i was doing a lot of traveling back in the 80's, i got so many tickets i had to hire a lawyer for a court hearing about getting my drivers license suspended. I was lucky at the time as my speeding tickets were all under well under 80 mph, and not considered to be reckless driving. Imo, many of the speeding tickets that were given out during those times were just another tax to raise revenues.

For real?? I’ve never heard of a radar detector being able to detect red light cameras? If this is true than I’m buying one for sure, what brand do you have. Thanks!!
