I haven’t noticed it as a problem on either of my third gens.
Did you turn the knob to the right or hit the + on the steering wheel controls?
(Just kidding, I had to ask. Lol)

There is a kicker upgrade that helps if you have the tech package without JBL.

There is also Audio settings for bass, treble, mids, F/R, R/L. Try adjusting those.

I know what you're saying about the volume capabilities. It just doesn't seem like you should have to turn it up to 98% of the volume capacity in order to listen with all of the windows down

I have found the sensitivity of the FM to be the biggest issue. It is so bad I was suspicious that the antenna wasn't attached to the radio. So I unscrewed the antenna... And yes of course... It got even worse. I've never had a radio that was so bad and pulling in stations.
