Rear Diff fluid

28-March-2o24

... approximately 22k miles on that rear diff fluid xchange done on the relatives '11 Taco

is it time yet to refresh that gear oil in the rear ?

now over 28k since DiY diff service
it is getting closer to be needing done
temps are in the mid-90s so it should EZ flow on out without issue

Scamsoil? Actually their 75w90 severe gear oil is pretty good, you'll pay for it. Certain other products of theirs not so much. I found other brands better, and cost less.

UPDATE
did the drain and refill at 60k miles and it must be stated that this VALVOLINE 75W90 based on my butt dyno is awesome, i only did the front and rear differentials and left the transfer case alone this time, i don't use the 4wd hardly at all and every time i did drain it it looked perfectly new,. actually i was using the REDLINE 75w85 gl5 big buck$$$$$$$$$ stuff and this VALVOLINE at least feels much better and smoother(butt dyno meter) at $7 bucks a quart IMO fo show, definetly highly rec'd as a top tier low cost gear oil replacement.

It's got nothing to do with a butt dyno. This all based on mental perception, and advertising.
i agree, but im very pleasantly surprised that this VALVOLINE V820 seems to be top notch for what i paid, i did a little research on BITOG and the numbers on it are just as good as some boutique brands that cost 2-3 times more.

The difference is the valvoline is a gl4 petro gear oil while amsoil severe gear oil is rated as a gl5 100% synthetic with more robust additives for extreme use. Valvoline in no way is as good as the amsoil, but ok for the average truck enthusiast with a daily driver. Plus the amsoil meets military spec.
