Third generation BRAKE warning

Live in AZ, and getting my 15K tire rotation service done today. They are ordering the sensor part for my truck. According to service tech. “All of the sensors will get this new seal”. Letters are supposed to be going out soon.

Still waiting for my part to come in (sensor seal). Was supposed to be by this past Friday. Perhaps next Friday.

UPDATE
Stop at the Toyota dealer today and ask if the sensor seal came in. Yes. When? The day after they saw the truck (5/10). AND NO ONE CALLED. Appointment tomorrow morning at 9am, and I'm slipping in the TSB for lunging at 40-50 mph while I'm there.

I'll keep you posted.

Glad to hear they have a fix for the lunging. That was one of the issues I had with both my ‘16 and ‘17. I was told with both that it’s normal operation and they couldn’t get them to duplicate the issue. Typical response from a dealership.

OK, I tried to post yesterday after I got home from the dealer, but the website was down until sometime after midnight. The dealer sealed and recalibrated my sensor (K0B002). They also replaced a 'skid control cushion" part number 88278-0C010 while they were at it.

As far as my shudder, reported to them between 45 and 50 mph, engine up to temp, cruise off or on, flat road, steady throttle. They said they could not dublicate the trouble, BUT did a trans software update (EL1701).

The forward impact sensor seems to be fixed. We'll see in the weeks to come.

The trans software update DID MAKE A LARGE DIFFERENCE in the trans shift points. Now, with a light touch on the throttle (how I normally drive) the trans upshifts a good 200-300 rpm higher than it previously did. 5th and 6th gear lockup is also delayed, a vast improvement. In a nutshell, the transmission works now as I feel it should have from the factory. I am very happy.

Now for the odd part. I drive in patterns. The pattern I drove in yesterday after the updates yields 20.6 to 21.4 mpg before the trans update. Yesterday I got over 23 mpg on the same loop. Both of these mileage events took place after filling up at the same gas station. Odd that the trans update would give me such a boost in mileage. I'll keep an eye on the mileage and report back in a month after I gather more data.

A question for you fine people. On my work sheet from the dealer, there are no TSB # at all, just the numbers that I listed above. Can anyone tell me how I can find the TSB # of these both updates?

Thank you all.

Topping off the brake fluid is not a wise thing to do in modern automobiles. The brake fluid level provides information on brake pad wear, and a low level alarm may signify a system failure (leak?). This is an alarm that should be taken to an experienced mechanic.

I think you have the BRAKE warning on my vehicle cofused with a low brake fluid warning. My BRAKE warning was due to a defective forward collision sensor. Even if the brake fluid were low, at 6K miles, the wear on my brakes is negligible. A master cylinder with a reservoir full of fluid dissapates heat better than a reservoir that is low on fluid. I do all of the maintenance on my vehicle because the dealer is a group of idiots. The truck only sees the dealer for recall and TSB work.

I tried searching, but can't find the post on the BRAKE warning coming on for no apparent reason. It just happened on my vehicle twice yesterday. Time to go see the dealer.
There is a recall for this issue

I just my Tacoma fixed

Had an appointment today at 2:00 to get the fix done to my pre collision thing. I was there for 45 minutes and they never gave me any worries about my aftermarket grill.

Honestly don't see how what they did would help anything, but if something did happen in the future my @ss will be covered.

I worked as a technician and service writer at my local Ford dealer for a few years and got to see how they operate with recalls and TSBs. I have also had this issue come up the the tC I had before the Taco. Some Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) will not have a recall number and are not sent out as a recall. The ones that are not sent out as a recall do not effect 100% of the related vehicle. I think the percentage is 50-74%, anything over 75% will be labeled a recall. The ones not sent out as recalls are a "Fix by Complaint" basis. Meaning, if the customer doesn't complain or say something about it, the dealer will not fix the issue.
Yes, it's shady. If you have anything you fell is not right about your new vehicle, say something to the dealer. If you have access to a shop, or a friend in the service world, use IdentiFix or AllData. Those programs will have current recall and TSB information. That's how I found the TSB on the input shaft bearing in the manual transmission of the Scion tC. Print them off to take with you.

Mine started acting up around 5k. I swapped out the 2018 TRD OR grill with a TRD pro at around 20 miles. So I know it’s not the grill. I went for recall and the dealer placed two overlapping 1” tape on the upper right corner (see pic). It obviously did not fix the moisture issue and it kept happening. I swapped back the grill so I would not get any crap about it and they pulled a code for an overheating element in the camera in the windshield. They said it could be related( doubt it, but they have their process). Waiting on parts to make appointment. I also have a whining noice at 58 mph while feathering the throttle. Similar to my 16 sport which ended up with a new rear end before I traded up to the 18. I was told the fix is sound deafening behind the rear seat, new leaf springs and a rear end rubber mount of some sort. Time will tell. Dealer has been great tho. Just be patient cause they have a procedure on every fix attempt. View attachment 26589View attachment 26590

The dealer wrapped my sensor like in the pic from WooD's post. If something goes south, it's covered.
