Transmission Problem Need Help!!

I have a 05 automatic Tacoma and have had a problem with my transmission. Many times when you go to out it into drive, the transmission doesn't go into drive for about 4 seconds then goes into drive. When in the time it acts as if it's in neutral. What's funny is it does it about 90% of the time in the winter but only about 30% of the time during the summer. We've had the electronics checked and everything good. First time mechanic looked at it he said the transmission fluid was alittle high but he said he fixed that but still had the problem. Anyone else have the same problem or a solution other then a new transmission?

What kind of mechanic?
General wrench or a toyota dealership?


These autos require a special sequence to check the level and its been screwed up many times by "mechanics".
Hell, alot come low on fluid from the factory

I had problem before and had a general mechanic place basically replace everything and it wasn't getting fixed so we found a mechanic who works out of his house and he fixed the problem without a problem so we had him look at it and before when he had fixed it he had to take it to the dealership cause they gave us the wrong transmission fluid so they had to clean it out and put the correct fluid in and then we started having this problem but the truck was never drove with the wrong transmission fluid in the transmission

Even if I started smoking dope again I'm not sure I could understand this...

I went to Piedmont Auto in the past to fix another problem I had and they couldn't fix it so I found a actual mechanic and helped us so we had him look at the transmission when we started having problems because it was right after he had worked on the truck before but we didn't have problems until after he had to take it to a dealership due to them giving him the wrong transmission fluid

I thought u had him messing with things 1st, and adding the wrong trans fluid....
Then the dealer touched it?

So if he messed with it first, i would blame him... not the dealership?
Maybe i misread ur posts, they seem to roll into eachother tho

He went to the dealership to get the transmission fluid and they told him that it was the correct fluid and it wasn't then he had to take it to the dealership so that they could clean it out and put the correct fluid in
 
So if toyota touched it last and handed it to u screwed up, take it back to them? Imeanheysomeonescrewedup ammmiright or ammmirigt?

Yea but dealerships are crazy about that,they'll say that it was because the mechanic or something. Idk just tryna figure out if anyone else had a similar problem
 
Transmission range sensor wiring harness. Sounds like the same problem as I had.

We had a mechanic test the signal that the transmission was receiving and told us it didn't have anything to do with the electronics I would assume that is what he was testing
