Really?? I honestly didn’t know that. But we really don’t have many bitter cold days and I rarely use my park brake

So the way that drums work is the shoes sort of wedge themselves as they get pulled into the drum. Reversing direction can sometimes free it up. It happened to me once here but we don't see real winters in Derpifornia.

It was stuck in reverse too. Would not unlock by reversing

I ran into this last winter too — just have to give it Mo PoWA!! And power through the hesitation to get it unstuck.
It happened to us often enough I even captured it on video as I complained to the dealer but they couldn’t do anything about it.
Give it more gas than you think you need and it’ll release.

Sort of related to this...no not really 
But if you hear a grinding noise it can sometimes be a rock stuck in the brakes. Often stopping and backing up will kick the rock out, and you're good to go. Yes i drive a lot of gravel roads, and have done this dozens of times.
It doesn't always work, but about 95 percent of the time.
