What is Toyota thinking?

No issues with misfires with my 2017 Offroad either. The transmission is shifting better now after 2500 km of driving. Though still up shifts too early, but will willingly drops down a gear or two with minimal pedal input (compared to when I first got the truck). The adaptive learning seems to be working.
The brakes are definitely annoying at times, but everything else about the truck I'm happy with so far. As long as the brake issue doesn't lead to mechanical problems (aka $$$) down the road when the warranty is up...
 
Well this is my first Toyota TRD Sport 4DR Full bed I have always owned rally car and jeep, and now that I have a house I need to lug sheet rock and lumber I liked the look on the Toyota Tacoma so I bought it and I have owned it for 6 months so far I broke the car in gently by not exceeding 50 mph over the first 1000 miles, I have notice the vehicle do things not expected. Like when parking I try to excelerat slowly and the car will jump as if I pressed the peddle down hard and as far as braking going it does feel like sometimes the brakes don't want to grab and the transmission sometimes feels like it wants to kick in but is confused so I think somewhere along the line there is a issue with the computer and the car maybe specs on software who knows but there is something going on. Let's keep in mind I do warm the truck before my trips.
 
Gotta love computers. Taking over the world one day at a time! I'll keep tossing $ at my 1st gen taco... more primitive= less problems. Hell, my 04 4runner has too many bells and whistles for me, I can't imagine the 2017/8's I'd go nuckingfutts! All the bad things I hear about the newest gens scare me. I know someday down the road I'll succumb to getting a new one, but it's gonna be a while...
 
Please wait until you get 15K plus miles. Yep mine was not great until about 15K. Have 20K now and it's like a completely different vehicle. Takes a while to loosen up I guess!

That’s the kind of hope I was looking for. Tight is the perfect word for what the feeling is. Just needs to do some things worse to be more enjoyable. Like an over eager new employee. We will see how she calms down. Maybe I need to drive her harder.

I get some of the same surging and loss of brake sensation on my 2017. I’ve had corporate come and it’s “Normal”.
You dont need to and shouldn’t start these new engines and let them “warm up”. It’s not a carbureted engine and does not require “warm up” after starting. It’s better to drive it easy to temp. Letting these engines sit at idle regularly will cause increased build up on carbon and is it good for longevity. Obviously if you need to get frost or ice off the vehicle you’ll have to let it come to temp at idle until you can safely see to drive. Otherwise I start and go.
 
So my 2016 Tac TRD off-road Took it to dealer 2 nd time for crappy performance normal And I told them brake issue de cel on fwy pulsation in pedal when braking. Get this they said my Method racing wheels. Are the complaint That it’s a wheel balancing alignment issue. But it goes straight as an arrow.
I laugh they said yeah your Brake did scare warped we can turn them. What a joke. As for tranny performed I installed a shiftsense shift module. No more issue it is great. Took about 1/2 to complete the Mod. I recommended especially when dealer kicks you to the curb as normal. Also filed a complaint with Toyota corporate Toyota customer care. You all should who are not happy with your Drivability.
 
How many of you guys give any salt to this idea that new engines burn in at speeds? That is, if you run at nn rpms doing 65mph, the engine burns in and takes on a feel for that slot? Same thing applies when new push rods, valve sleeves are installed, supposedly. I've never been able to bear this little theory out, even having had several new vehicles and have felt at times that the engine seemed to learn to appreciate my habits. But I couldn't tell you whether or not that was just me, my own head, playing on me.
 
Not really sure what you mean by "burning in" , I used to burn in servers (in the PC world)

Or you "burn in" a new ring & pinion to establish a wear ring, only other reference would be seating the rings in a new motor...
 
An engine is broken in after about 10-15 minutes of running. They run these engines at the factory and drive the vehicle around a test track. Some of the high end brands run their engines at redline for about a minute before installing them into a vehicle.

I think this little gem of a theory has to do with the establishment of a natural resonance within the engine based upon characteristic usage during the first couple thousand miles. It will just seem to drive better after establishing this resonance at the speeds/rpms that were frequently hit during the initial burn in.
 
The Atkinson miss is irritating even after 2 years. My wife has a 2009 with the 4.0 and I think it’s a WAY better engine oil filter and all. It pulls a trailer WAY better even though it has less HP. The only way to get into that extra HP is to drive it like you stole it which is weird when you know you paid cash for it. Oh yea one more thing the 3.5 doesn’t get better mileage than the 4.0. Sure you can get 22 mpg with the 3.5 if you drive it 54mph everywhere you go but the 4.0 will too. I vote the 3.5 is an epic fail.
