What size tire to get

I have a 2012 tacoma with stock rims. I'm wondering what size tire I can go up to without the tires rubbing?

265/75/16 or 265/70/17 is the largest you can go an those might rub the front mudflaps.

Is there any way to prevent that besides not doing it? I'm just trying to figure out my options for winter tires and I'm not sure if I'm ready to spend the cash to lift it.

You can remove the front flaps. My 265/75s never rubbed but I had already taken the front flaps off when I stepped up to that size.

Id go with 295 65 17s theyll fit with no trimming, ive seen it done before. They look like theyd rub but nope, and they'd give youre truck a nicr aggressive stance
