What's better?

Does the SSP help with the hard downshifts when coming to a stop?

I hope this clarifies downshift and SSP.

You don't manually downshift as part of SSP. Moving the shifter forward while in SSP takes the truck from 5th or 6th or even 3rd gear (I think) to 4th. This takes the truck out of SPP and back to the manual shifting normal transmission set up. It stays in 4th gear until I move the shifter to the right (normal transmission automatic shifting setup) and then to the left (SSP position) again. A bell confirms you are in or out of SSP.

I manually downshift (leave SSP) when coming to a traffic light if I want transmission assist. It is very smooth. And I downshift almost all the time merging into highway conditions, with the truck shifting into 4th gear automatically (again, very smooth).

To get back into SPP I move the shifter to the right (into the normal shifting pattern) and then back left into SSP. And as I said above, the bell sounds when SPP is engage again and when leaving SSP.

What I mean is when the transmission automatically drops down into first gear when coming to a stop. It seems to cause my brakes to grab too hard and makes it nearly impossible to come to a smooth stop.

I have a few questions about SSP. First why are you using it ? Will it adversely effect the trucks computer in the long run ? And will it void out your warranty should any problems come up ? Thanks

My 2017 does this and it feels like the brakes are soft for a second then grab again.

I don't experience that either in standard transmission mode or SSP.

I use SSP to get better drivability and power under the circumstances outline in my post above, as well as during normal driving. With the rpms between 2000 and 3000 more of the time, there is power when I need it, instead of the lugging that many people complain about. In my experience, lugging happens because the transmission normally sits around 1100 to 1500 rpms, too low to give sufficient torque. At highway speed there is still some gear searching, but less frequently compared to the normal transmission set up.

Computer problems? I have not heard about this, and it's been out a few years.

Warranty? That's a matter of debate among members on this site and the other one. I disconnect it from the computer plug under the dash when going for service. The bell still sounds when the truck is started, however; and some have recommended to shut off the SPP at the black box, which probably requires resetting (an easy thing to do).

Right. It seems to only affect the OR models and a lot of people say it has something to do with the brake booster. But I've found that if I stop while in neutral there aren't any issues.
