By far my 2001 is my favorite truck that I have ever owned. However my Colorado crew cab had a great storage space under the back seat for jump cables, floor jack,tie downs , etc.. My Toyota has virtually no storage space anywhere. I really miss that.

My 2ng gen has storage under rear seats. I thoughts 1st gens did too...
 
My first gen extra cab has a compartment under each back seat. I have rope, straps, bungees, and a floor jack in them

Have 2001 2door 4bang preruner smallest made that year .love it . Also have a 2001 4door limited , 4 weel drive lock dif , power windows sunroof even power driver seat . No paperwork. Swap or not

My 2000 TRD had storage under both rear seats...
 
& I'll add that unless you had an Elocker what you had was not a pre runner...

EDIT: there was a "pre runner" type version for a 4 banger but without a locking diff. this was in '99 But it was the TRD package w/Elocker offered only for 6 cyl
