No, thats not fair to claim. Your failing to understand its not cheap to own a tired vehicle if your unable to service it yourself. I'm getting up in age also, but wise enough to buy a new vehicle that doesn't require a lot more extensive work I'm no longer able to do. I have a newer truck that when the time comes I can afford to have that work done by others now. Heck 20 years I was still doing everything my vehicles needed....now just basic maintenance. Getting old sucks.

the guy in that article said he spent $20k maintaining his late 1990s tacoma over 2+ decades and 300k miles so far
and his number crunching said if he had been like MOST that trade in vehicle for something else routinely it would have cost in excess of $100k to do that

do you have any clue what SH!T issues my relatives 2o11 Gen2 is having currently and it has barely over 90k miles that could be untold thousands and thousands to fix if the engine is f!ucking itself alive during the winter with that pesky rattle on cold start up

its got some cotdamn rattle over bumps at low speeds that i have no CLUE where the f!uck it is coming from
could be exhaust
could be the shocks
could be the body
could be the leaf springs
i just dont know LMAO

i asked a professional toyota shop about looking into it and it could very well cost $500 diagnostics to find ABSOLUTEY NOTHING WRONG like it is with the case of my old '97 rig

what makes you think any new truck that is over 50k now will not have major costly issues to fix well before they are 20 years aged and 250k or more miles

it is not necessarily the elevated 'cost' of getting repair done... lots of the tasks i have run into lately are major time on that book they like to quote from... four hours six hours nine hours

it is the COMPETENCE to do the cotdamn job right the first time and know what you are doing as a pro and not some dumshit monkey partchanger

I guess I'm just lucky, or intelligent enough to know how to manage what resources I have, so I don't end up running into repetitive issues as such with a clapped out vehicle. Some folks get it, and others never will. Imo, there's no reason to purposely wear out a vehicle just for pleasure, unless you're prepared to pay the price of admission. Whining about issues all the time solves nothing, but more whining.....and you can quote me on that.
Most normal owners will never own a vehicle for 20 years, or more than 250k miles, which ever comes first. Usually by that time a vehicle is considered used up, unless you prepared to empty your pockets, and even then with many new parts, it still doesn't mean it should be running like new. There was an article I read back in the day where many of the replacement parts for vehicles were never manufacture as well as the original part that came in the vehicle. I've seen a lot of truth to it.

Not to change the subject but do we have any members that bought one of these?

I was at the local dealership for my company car and walked the lot. Then checked Toyota website. All 4 cyl turbos. No V6 available. A hybrid. No 4 door with 6 foot beds.

Somebody on here is the first one to post his 4th gen Taco but I can't remember who and he hasn't been on here for awhile. And yes, plenty of 4th gen Tacos with a 6-foot box.

According to their website..This is a quote:

Its good that these Toyota hybrids have had few issue's. Just looking in the engine bay, they sure appear a royal pita to service. They are amazing the power they put out for the mpg's they get.

Yeah, we get it you have negative feelings about every tacoma except your precious gen1. Its always about your gen1 being the best.
