Jaw drop oil change

Just purchased a cert. used 2017 Tacoma with a 3.5l V-6. I noticed that the manual calls for 10k oil changes. However, If you tow, do city driving, etc., the manual suggest 5k.
I also noticed that the previous owner changed the oil every 5k. I will be putting 25k plus miles a year on this truck and towing my bass boat 400 miles north to Ontario a few times every year. Just to be safe, I'll change my oil with a quality 0w-20 and OEM oil filter every 5-6k when I rotate my tires. I have been changing oil and working on cars since I was a youngster... so, I'm comfortable servicing my own cars/trucks. If your not, take your truck to a dealer or a local mechanic that does quality work at a fair price. I would not let Walmart, iffy-lube or any other place touch my Tacoma.

If you have a set of ramps and basic mechanics tools, you can do the oil change yourself. Purchase a special cap wrench and watch a few Youtube videos. Tons of information on "how-to" change 3 gen oil and filters.

Toyota says 10K.......lotsa folks do 5K.........I'm kinda OCD and some are gonna say I'm wasting money but I do every 3K.......I'm sure the oil will go further but filter breakdown bothers me a bit! My thinking is the oil is the life-blood of your engine......keep 'er clean and you'll extend the life of that engine!

Definitely not hurting anything! If it makes you smile keep on keepin on!

I agree with slapshot. Just take it to the dealer..I can not also make my self to do the oil change at 10k.. lol
I do mine every 5k. Another suggestion is to do the transmission fluid drain and fill every 60k. You will have too do this at the dealer. There is a specific procedure for it ; you be surprise how dark the fluid is. It is a seal transmission so you don’t have to do it.

Hey Jac23...
I'll be towing a boat (1500lbs) a few times during the summer. I might just have the dealer service my transmission at 45k?? Thanks for the "heads-up"!

Many years ago, one of the local Toyota dealers completed the 15k service on my 2002 Tundra. They forgot to screw the oil fill cap back onto the engine.... coated the engine bay with oil. I was very lucky, the engine did not blow-up or suffer any damage. After this, I have done all oil changes on my cars and trucks.

Got the notification Saturday it was time for an oil change. I went to Firestone to get it changed and was told my 17 Taco takes a specific synthetic oil. Needless to say an hour later turned out to be a $90 oil change. Is this normal or did I choose the wrong place to get it changed? If so what’s your suggestions on locations? I don’t do Walmart
The tacoma dealership is cheaper than that dont know were your from but the dealership in Portsmouth Ohio charges 48dollars that includes tire rotation and the things Toyota wants checked
