Taco Newb with Questions

1st post on here but by no means a newb to the truck world. I currently own 2 Powerstrokes , 17 and 19. Both lifted and extensive motor work.

I'm in the market for a smaller truck and am currently looking to purchase a TRD Sport soon. Of course it will get lifted and modded. I know it will be apples to oranges performance wise but my questions are regarding suspension.

I plan on clearing 33's on 10" wheel. Probably either a 18 or 17 diameter. Also plan on taking it offroad so I'd probably do a 6" lift for clearance issues. If 35's will fit without trimming then I'd do them. Not looking to trim anything. Would rather lift it the required height and do it right. Besides the install requirements, are there any other mods needed ? Carrier bearing....u-joints.... driveshaft....issues with the IFS...???? Just want to get a heads up and try to have my "ducks in a row" before install.

Also, what, if any, are my options for regearing ? Not looking to crawl, just regain some of the lost power.

With proper offset wheels you can clear the uca but it makes the rub on the cab mount worse. There is a sweet spot between 0 and neg 12 offset that some people have managed to avoid rubbing by using after market ucas and perfectly set alignment. It's hit or miss some people say no rub and others had to do the cab mount chop.

Ok yeah....should have mentioned the wheels would most likely be -24 offset...so that's roughly 4.5 bs. Ideally I want some poke but nothing like 16 wides on one of my trucks now lol.

I've seen a few taco's pull off 6 inches and 12 wides with 33's so I figured that 10 wides would fit no problem

I owned a 02 Tundra, 09 Tacoma and my current ride is a 2017 Tacoma double cab SR5 V-6. I always had great luck with Toyota trucks and lots of problems with Fords (both ownership and working for them as a parts supplier). Are you unhappy like this powerstroke owner??

Definitely not lol and I love that video lol. I did own a 6.0 for a brief time but I sold it after I made a 10.54 sec pass at the track lol. Local track requires cages at the 10.99 mark. Didn't have the time or desire to put a cage in it. This guy came up to me and offered me cash for it. I kinda hesitated thinking of all the kids I took money from on my backroads...I mean at a safe track environment....and eventually said yeah a couple days later. He ended up wrapping it a zombie theme and posted videos on YT under Zmbkylr. I think he runs less nitrous too lol
 
Last post was weird.. tapatalk said my picture were the wrong format but allowed me to screenshot them...???

The 19 is currently at dealership due to a recall...I believe something to do with transmission ??? When it returns, its getting the goods lol
 
Well...went to the dealer today to test drive some yotas. Same family that owns the Ford and Cadillac dealerships I've purchased from, owns the Toyota one also.

Dropping down in bed size, cabin size, and power would definitely take some getting used to lol. I'm probably over exaggerating but its definitely not something that can be overlooked. Makes me wonder how well it would do with a lift and larger wheels and tires. I'm not looking for a race car but I do want to still have some pep lol.

I'm definitely going to have to rethink this one through fully. I've reached out to multiple vendors, that I've either dealt with or have an account with, in search of parts. Seems as though most is widely available. The only thing I cant seem get over is , once I re-gear, tune, exhaust, intake, lift, wheels, tires....its still a V6. Buying a full-size might be a better option for me.

I don't know why are you so exited about Tacoma? Especially, when there are so many nice releases nowadays. As example, have you seen Ford's new Rander 2019? It is way better than Tacoma in my opinion, and I am afraid that I will not buy Tacoma as a future car anymore. Yes, in the middle of 21st century, Toyota was ruling the entire car market. But not anymore... Here is a quick preview of Ford's new pickup.

I wouldn't call it excitement lol...more of a picking of the few. The Tacoma stood out for me. Besides the newly released Ranger, small truck choices are limited to the Colorado or the Frontier. I don't consider the Ridgeline a truck lol...sorry!! Out of those options, the Tacoma seemed to be the most bang for your buck and more eye appealing when modded.

But after sitting in one and driving for a little, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a full size instead.

Its purpose was to be modded and used as a rolling advertisement for my shop. Short trips to drop off parts.. lunch getter....whatever. And the occasional trips out to the trails. And alot of people seem to have Tacomas around me.

Funny you mention the Ranger as my Ford guy has came to my shop twice in one since he heard me say Tacoma. Again the lack of motor options and lack of power has my attention. But I do love the interior over the Tacoma. Looks wise, I still feel the Tacoma looks better. Plus, one thing I learned from Ford is, if you buy a 1st production run, be prepared for problems. My 6.4 Powerstroke shot flames out of the exhaust due to a regen issue lol....2011 and 2012 6.7's had wastegate and rod issues....no the 100 shot of nitrous had nothing to do with the rods... it was a TSB from Ford lol.

I think interior is the weakest part of any Toyota car. Especially comparing to other manufactures. I am no even going to mention "German trio" here. Maybe you're right and Ford is just a temporary interest from my side. However, you would admit that other car manufactures are coming closer and closer. In some aspects they are even better. It was mentioned somewhere in the review I mentioned in my previous post.

Weak interior is a dodge dash. At least on the late 90 dashes. They were junk almost all cracked. I think a ford is one of the best driving trucks on the road. I wouldn’t buy a new ranger . Like in the earlier post I’m sure there will be bugs. A frontier is a great truck also there just plain. But plain normally last . I had a Nissan 97 hardbody 4x4 it was a great truck. Used when I bought it and wore out when I got rid of it.
